Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2013 Another really good Belgian ale from these guys. Nice apple and candy aroma. Flavors follow the nose but with a great caramel backing and bitter finish. Very nice.

bottle. Pours an extremely dark black with a large beige head and very lively carbonation. Aroma is of spices, plums, and raisins. Flavor is fruity with spices in the finish. Full bodied with creamy texture. Very good.

Bottle from Harvest Market, Bedford NH. Aroma is wild mix of bready malt, a musty yeastiness kind of like a pencil eraser, spices, alcohol and fruit esters. Appearance is virtually opaque dark brown at center of glass with hazy, lighter brown (light dark cider) at the outside, with nice effervescence and persistent foamy beige head with mild lacing that doesn’t linger on the glass. Taste is moderate sweetness and light sour. Palate is moderate to heavy bodied with thick texture, lively carbonation (perhaps a tad too much) and a nice, pleasant sweet over sour finish. Overall, this is really nice and interesting, hitting pretty fully on all levels. Aroma is a bit more interesting than taste and mild demerits for too much carbonation, but those are the nitpicking separating this from perfection.

750 mL bottle. Pours a deep, burnt sienna, massive beige head with ridiculous retention and nice lacing. Nose is Belgian yeast funk, candy sugar, allspice, banana, dried fruit, plums. Mouth is medium bodied, drier than I anticipated, caramel, fruit, bubblegum, spice, toasted bread, well balanced and the ABV is only evident at the back of the throat. Very nice Quad.

Bottle into a tulip. Pours an inky black, with a small tan head that fades into a disk on the surface. Nose is dark fruit and dark roast malt. Taste is dark fruit with a hint of Belgian yeast banana and clove. Delicious. An outstanding brew from one of North America’s best breweries.

Bottle @ Stout, Toronto. Pours hazy dark ruby with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel, sugar and fruit. Booze in the long nose. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with fruity and estery touches and mild notes of hops. Rough, estery aftertaste with mild acidic hints. Potent and heavy but well-balanced and enjoyable

As a side bar, I can’t believe I have never rated this beer before. It’s been an old standby for a long time. It pours deep hazy violet with ruby highlights; the head is off-white and mousse-like. The aroma has notes of: dark bread, rum-soaked raisins, fruitcake, and dark fruits. The taste is medium sweet that finishes lightly bitter; there are notes of: dark fruits, dark bread, prunes, and rice rice pudding. The palate is medium-heavy bodied, has light carbonation, and a long finish. Overall, a very consistent and well crafted beer - almost makes me patriotic

Pours a dark brown color, topped with a fairly decent and lasting beige head. Nice aroma of malt, some caramel with dried fruits, though some alcohol can be noted. Sweet start, a feel of caramel and mild bitterness. Alcohol presence can be picked up, though not too excessive. A decent one.

Pours a very dark brown hue with a very thick and frothy head and light carbonation. Has a fruity aroma and a stout and strong but great taste, leave a bit of a dry aftertaste. It’s a good beer, a bit expensive but very delicious. I recommend this beer to anyone. I’m not a fan on stout and thick beers but this is a good one.
