ENG: 750ml bottle from Liquor Mart Winnipeg. Poured into the tulip gives a very dark brown, iridescent color with orange highlights. Dark beige, medium head and a bit of lacing. Aromas of wheat, bananas, citrus, lemon grass, champagne and hints of yeast somewhere at the end. Taste is very sweet, banana-like, sweet champagne-like with it’s booze, and a bit sour. There is strong yeast presence. After some time I can feel caramel notes too (probably I cooled the beer down too much and didn’t wait long enough after taking it out the fridge). Medium to high carbonation and medium bodied. Overall very nice, sweet wheat, although I am not a big fan of a style.
PL: Butelka 750ml kupiona w Liquor Mart w Winnipeg. Przelana do kieliszka, ciemno-brązowa, opalizująca barwa z pomarańczowymi przebłyskami. Ciemno-beżowa, średnia piana i nieco lejsingu.

For a big beer, its rather discreet, not hinting initially at its elevated ABV or heaps of fruit esters. Dark, sweet, dried fruit come through in the aroma. Dark, cola brown with active foamy head, which quickly dissipates. Taste brings more fruitiness, some wood, some molasses, all which finishes quickly with only a hint of warmth.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
27 month old bottle from TBS. Pours a deep and murky reddish brown. Nose if full of fruity esters, plum, citrus, pineapple, grapes, apples. Taste follows the nose, lots of complex mingling fruits. Sweet and wine like. Lingering fruity finish. Slightly warming. Fantastic stuff.

I love port. I love heavy abv beers for the same reason - for ruminative sipping late of an evening and this fits the brief. This beer was mahogany in colour with plenty of hazy but also a mousse-like head that left patchy lace down the side of the glass. A nose of dates and overripe plums, some carob (I hate carob) and brown bread in a body that was silky and sweet with just a subtle bitterness that only really comes forward as it sits on the palate for a while. Speaking of which, this finish is enduring and becomes more chocolately as it sits.

Only way this rates higher then westmalle is lower expectation, given its not a true belgian. (In my opinion) overly carbonated from bottle pour and no, bottles were not poured at room temp, have about a second before getting it into glass. Only time I’ve had issues like that were in cases where Brett was being used as well. Suspect more sucrose then belgian candij syrup as to the dry finish and lack of head, along with more cocao then dark fruit.bit of spice and bread flavor but lacks in mouthfeel.too light, too dry.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours clear amber-brown with two fingers of light tan head, excellent retention, spotty lacing. (4/5) Nose is dark vinous fruit, brown sugar, some Belgian yeast. (9/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter. (9/10) Full body, moderate carbonation, off dry and mildly boozy finish. (4/5)
Nicely integrated and mellowed but a couple years’ cellaring. (Should pick up a couple more of these and put them down for longer, to see how they’ll change.) A very well-behaved and nicely-balanced strong dark. Nice beer for a cold winter’s afternoon, having just cleared the snow from the driveway! (16/20)

750ml cork bottle poured into a duvel glass around 12 degrees. Poured a deep mohagany, almost black robe, showing a faint ruby hue and good carbonation. You get about a finger and a half of lacy tanned head that fades pretty fast to an uneven porous layer. The nose is complex with bananas, raisins, plums, cherries, nuts, dark bread and alcohol. The taste is representative of what you get in the nose, paired with a good density and wonderful finish. You can put this beer in your cellar up to 8 years to let it evolve into an even more fruity and nutty ale. Cheers!
