COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Sampled at Northgate Tasting. I must be missing something with this renowed Belgian Strong. Tasted with La Fin and Terrible, and this was my least favorite.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass..dark cherry pour with thin white head..aroma of dark fruits,malts,raisins..very dry, malty, sweet taste..more like a wine than a beer..not my thing.

Shared bomber. Watery brown appearance. Ripe dark fruit nose, but not prominent on the palate. Dull carbonation makes for a surprisingly light palate. High ABV cloaked. Okay, but may be better with a meal.

Dark ruby red in color emitting a sweet fruity aroma. Highly carbonated to style which accentuates its beautiful sweet, dark ripe fruit taste. Reminiscent of raisin, fig and black cherry with a hint of vanilla

Bottle. Pours a dark copper color with a thin layer of beige head. Aroma of yeast, dark fruits, and spices. Taste of raisins, yeast, and spice.

"hides the 9% abv very well. fruity and yeasty aroma, same in the flavor with some maltiness as well. not as harsh as maudite, and therefore better. looks great, smells ok, and tasted good, if not great. the body is nice, and like i said, it hides the alcohol well, but the carbonation is still too heavy for me..."

330ml bottld poured in a Chalice. A: Pours a nice dark brown bit cloudy color and a huge fluffy beige head when poured. Retention is quite good. It never disappears totally leaving some lacings S: Sweet, spicy and a bit fruity in the nose. Toffee, caramel malts, earthy yeasts and coriander. Dry raisins, hops and a bit of alcohol in the end T: Full of taste. Quite pleasant. Fruity and sweet upfront. Reminds dark dry fruits. Port wine. Spicy. Thereís something in this beer that gives a quite refreshing sensation in the mouth, I would guess coriander. Earthy yeasts and a delicate hoppy bitterness. A warmy beer M: Medium creamy and molasses body. Reasonable carbonation O: Extremely drinkable beer. Dispite of the Belgian influence, the Canadians of Unibroue were able to do it their own way. Unibroue beer have personality and are well done [ BA Review @ 12/20/2009 ]

Very Dark reddish brown color 2 fingers head. really fruity, cake fruits, figs and dark rosted malts in background. the taste is just amazing. first you taste the residual sugars from the grains that taste like ripe fruits and then comes the grainy and mellow taste that is typical from Unibroueís Flagpole beers. very-well hidden alcohol again. not very hoppy but thatís okay there enough going on in the taste to charm you on a cold day! might be their best strong ale ( without considering special editions or very rare brews) Iíve actually read that itís a quad... but they donít mention it everywhere... sure feels like it... then it hangs with the bests : trappist Rochefort and then some

750 ml bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; a hazy dark amberish brown with off-white/very light caramel head steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark fruit, spices, and Belgian yeast. Malty, but balanced. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Could have a bit more body, but enjoyable nonetheless.
