Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Bottle @ Stout, Toronto. Pours hazy dark ruby with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel, sugar and fruit. Booze in the long nose. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with fruity and estery touches and mild notes of hops. Rough, estery aftertaste with mild acidic hints. Potent and heavy but well-balanced and enjoyable

As a side bar, I canít believe I have never rated this beer before. Itís been an old standby for a long time. It pours deep hazy violet with ruby highlights; the head is off-white and mousse-like. The aroma has notes of: dark bread, rum-soaked raisins, fruitcake, and dark fruits. The taste is medium sweet that finishes lightly bitter; there are notes of: dark fruits, dark bread, prunes, and rice rice pudding. The palate is medium-heavy bodied, has light carbonation, and a long finish. Overall, a very consistent and well crafted beer - almost makes me patriotic

Pours a dark brown color, topped with a fairly decent and lasting beige head. Nice aroma of malt, some caramel with dried fruits, though some alcohol can be noted. Sweet start, a feel of caramel and mild bitterness. Alcohol presence can be picked up, though not too excessive. A decent one.

Pours a very dark brown hue with a very thick and frothy head and light carbonation. Has a fruity aroma and a stout and strong but great taste, leave a bit of a dry aftertaste. Itís a good beer, a bit expensive but very delicious. I recommend this beer to anyone. Iím not a fan on stout and thick beers but this is a good one.

Aroma of smoked malt, and grains, pours a dark brown color with a moderately lasting tan well laced head. Moderate carbonation with a thick full bodied feel, tastes of ginger, prunes, smoked malt and grain. Short lasting smoky finish.

750mL bottle, poured into a snifter. The aroma is initially roasted grains and spice with a pungent prune, some tobacco, and some funk. It pours a murky prune color with a light, fuzzy tan head thatís wispy with only light retention and no lace. The taste is a medium high bitter and medium sweet. The texture is a moderate thick and oily one with only a light fuzz for carbonation, and a medium full body thatís flavored with bread, spice, tobacco, and plums. It finishes spicy with a zip and has warm flavors of prunes and spice and leaves an aftertaste thatís bready and lingering with a light spice, alcohol, and fig.

Pours a dark cloudy brown with a large beige head. Aroma is sweet roasted malts, yeast with some dark fruity notes. Taste is sweet dark malts, dark plum fruit notes, yeast, some mild tartness. Palate is a medium body, fairly smooth with good carbonation. Finishes with a dark malt and dark fruit flavor of plums, maybe some raisin notes, yeast and a slightly dry sweet alcohol ending. Overall a good smooth and full flavored brew.

Smell and taste of date, caramel, anise. Sweet and thin sour. Very thin white cloud, light body, slightly thin texture but good amount of alcohol. Good but too sweet and much spice for me

On-tap at the Yard House in PBG, FL. Served in a goblet. Dark red, nearly black with no head by the time it got to my table. No lacing. Doesnít look like it has much carbonation. Delicious smell. Figs and dark fruit. Some caramel malts and the typical candi sugar smell. The taste isnít quite as impressive as the aroma. Some aromas translated into flavor: the figs and other fruits and the belgian candi sugar. A bit of licorice in the finish. Very light bodied for such a strong beer. Low carbonation and a very dry finish. Finished the glass easily without feeling as though I had drank a 9% alcohol beer. Remarkably well made beer.
