COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Deep red/burgundy with very little head. Lots of cherry and plum flavor yet very mellow alcohol taste for a big beer. Drinks like a port wine. Great with a dark cigar.

Large bottle. Dark brown pour with a finger of tan head. Big aroma of dark fruit, some yeast, raisins, plums, bit of booze. Taste is dark fruit, with lots of rich maltiness. Nice and complex.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 750 ml bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 9% and there a brief description on the back label. Appearance: The body has a dark brownish color with some lighter brownish amber highlights. It looks like it has a slight haze and it has lots of fine carbonation running up the sides of the glass. From the pour I got an inch of light tan foam. This foam fades slowly to ring of foam at the edge of the glass. A quick swirl excites the foam. Lacing is minimal. Smell: It’s aroma is very inviting and full of deep fruity and yeasty notes. I gets notes of red grapes, raisins, plums and over ripe pears. These notes are surrounded by a pleasant sweet bready maltiness with just the very slightest hint of the 9% abv. Taste / Palate: Like the aroma it’s flavor follows in its footsteps. The has a good full body with loads of malty, yeasty and dark fruitiness. I also get nice mild notes of vanilla extract along with some alcohol which adds another nice layer of complexity. Mouth feel is smooth and full with lots of soft carbonation.

Dark brown with thin head. It has a subtle aroma of wine and dark fruit. Sports a complex fruity flavor with raisins, dark fruit, plum, sherry. Slight hint of sour, vinous aftertaste. Medium body. Slight warming. I enjoyed this quite a bit as a very different drinking experience than my current trend of Oktoberfest and the like. I wish I had more as I feel this would a great beer to enjoy over the course of a night spent next to the fire reading a good book. I drank the one I had while playing guitar so it wasn't really the mellow contemplative setting this beer deserves. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not a lot of dtetectable aroma. Pours a very dark brown with thin tan head. Very complex taste as added spices are evident. Very smooth and mellow. Good but not my favorite style.

Drought. Inky black with small off-white foamy head, very little caramel aroma, medium carbonation, mocha taste with a hint of sour cherry, long finish. Very smooth and balanced taste!

Famed Canadian ale in Belgian trappist or abbey beer style. Lots of dark malts, caramel, chocolate, dried fruits, aromatic hops; well-balanced and tasteful but it also had a hint of DMS which disturbed me a little.

From 341 ml bottle. Pour is dark brown with almost no head. Nose is vinous port wine-like with strong notes of sweet dark fruits, mainly prunes and cherries. Fresh pie notes too. Taste is quite sweet with a long warm alcohol finish. Flavours of sweet fruit desserts with some vanilla and dough notes. This beer has definitely a unique character!
