GRM (815), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Sep 18, 2007 Brown bottle, 341 ml, purchased in Trois-Pistoles, savoured in the Trois-Pistoles trappist glass on September 18 2007; eye: dark mahogany, hazy, good effervescence - you can hear it crick, crack, crock like Rice Crispies, nice creamy beige head that disappears a bit too quickly, no lacing; nose: rich odours, a mix of caramelized malt, of alcohol warmth, of candied fruits, of freshness, of Belgian yeast, of spices; mouth: velvety, smooth, caramelized malt, nice hops that stands to the malt, but then dances with it so that the malt and hops each come to the forefront, small dark berries, a bit of tobacco, the yeast is present throughout the sip, the alcohol only appears as faint pepper, oh yes, I forgot the spices and its fruitiness, long finale in caramelized malt and yeast with an enjoyable hint of bitterness, nice balance between all of the flavours, lightly sweet, mildly bitter, medium to full body, average carbonation; overall: really good

gameface23 (77), Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours a muddy/murky brown with a nice looking tan head. Smell is sweet, with brown sugar dominating. The taste is great, with more brown sugar and plums. Not as much of a raisin flavor as other Belgian Strong Ales and I like this one better because of it. Sparky27 (498), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 19, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a murky dark brown with a soap scum head and light lacing. Nose is sweet malt, dark fruits and brown sugar. Taste is figs, dates, caramelized sugar, yeast and a slight bitter finish. Medium mouth feel with carbonation that’s prickly on the tongue. Hides the alcohol well but very warming, even after a few sips. A nice enjoyable strong ale that, as per their commercial description, is very port wine-like. hellbilly (837), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Aug 17, 2008 pours a orange shade of woody dark brown with some yeasty clumps at the bottom. fluffy almond colored head cloaks the glass with foam as it slowly retreats. immense yeast aroma is savory at times... spice, wood, very soft camp fire smell, dates, raisins and a touch of alcohol. tastes like an oxidized red apple covered with REAL caramel, cinnamon and lots of yeasty dryness. it’s sweet without being over sweet. it leaves an aftertaste that reminds me of fake sugar. medium to full body with a soft velvety mouth feel... Cabeero (10), Thornton, Colorado, USA Aug 16, 2008 Watery, undefined and too sweet. Bottom line, Unibrew should have put as much artistry into this beer as they did the label. CaryTheDude (157), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2008 Oh those dark fruits. Just discovered this brewery through a chance run-in with La Terrible, but I’m going to keep an eye out for it in the future. Happy time.
