cheapdark (1547), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 7, 2007 Updated: Jan 1, 2008 Beautiful black brown pour with swirling hypnotizing action. Gunk on the bottom of this unfiltered brew. Attractive off sweetish aroma, but clean and fresh. Ooooh, this stuff is smooth yet powerful. Really numbs up the taste buds with pleasure. You would never think of it as 10%, this is more like the flavor that was as low as 6%. Smooth and sly, sneaks the alky into you as if was a wheat or dunkleweizen. I bought this thinking it was wheat, well now I see it’s a strong ale. Medium to strong whisky and fruit background. Or is that wine soaked plums or bing cherries? Good creamy carbonation for a low level tingle. Finish is strangely middle of the tongue associated with alky bitter bite, it hangs for a while.
gameface23 (77), Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours a muddy/murky brown with a nice looking tan head. Smell is sweet, with brown sugar dominating. The taste is great, with more brown sugar and plums. Not as much of a raisin flavor as other Belgian Strong Ales and I like this one better because of it. Sparky27 (498), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 19, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a murky dark brown with a soap scum head and light lacing. Nose is sweet malt, dark fruits and brown sugar. Taste is figs, dates, caramelized sugar, yeast and a slight bitter finish. Medium mouth feel with carbonation that’s prickly on the tongue. Hides the alcohol well but very warming, even after a few sips. A nice enjoyable strong ale that, as per their commercial description, is very port wine-like. hellbilly (837), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Aug 17, 2008 pours a orange shade of woody dark brown with some yeasty clumps at the bottom. fluffy almond colored head cloaks the glass with foam as it slowly retreats. immense yeast aroma is savory at times... spice, wood, very soft camp fire smell, dates, raisins and a touch of alcohol. tastes like an oxidized red apple covered with REAL caramel, cinnamon and lots of yeasty dryness. it’s sweet without being over sweet. it leaves an aftertaste that reminds me of fake sugar. medium to full body with a soft velvety mouth feel... Cabeero (10), Thornton, Colorado, USA Aug 16, 2008 Watery, undefined and too sweet. Bottom line, Unibrew should have put as much artistry into this beer as they did the label. CaryTheDude (157), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2008 Oh those dark fruits. Just discovered this brewery through a chance run-in with La Terrible, but I’m going to keep an eye out for it in the future. Happy time.
