santoslhalper (166), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 23, 2008 Best before 01/21/2006. I’m pretty sure they date for 3 years, so this is a 2003. In the glass it’s gorgeous. A deep purple with a strong tan head. Fruity aromas (apples, pears, grapes, plums) with tons of brown sugar and molasses notes. Very doughy as well. Rich and complex smell. When it hits your tongue, it’s immediately bubbly, with doughy, bready characters everywhere. Then, as you dig a little deeper into the taste, you notice the beautiful subtleties beneath - plums, dates, figs, raisins, brown sugar, wine, fresh apples. There is so much to taste in this beer, and not a sign of anything bad happening in it’s near future. I think the best by date is a joke - I’d venture to say 10 years in the bottle and this beer could still be improving. What a great experience. Proof that in cellaring, patience pays off.
SoberCajun (3), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA does not count Aug 29, 2008 The best Unibroue I’ve tried so far. Really drinkable but satisfyingly strong at the same time. Amazingly complex flavors mask the alcohol well. Almost flawless in my opinion. Pershing (68), Garland, Texas, USA Aug 26, 2008 Hazy murky brown with a small white head that fizzes out quickly. Notes of overripe bananas. A little spritzy and a bit thin. A little too swet for my palate. taalhiker (11), , Ohio, USA Aug 26, 2008 from 750ml bottle - need to find my notes from the Unibroue tasting at my local supermarket. My favorite Unibroue.
MBison (374), Southern Highlands, Australia Aug 25, 2008 Bottle (355ml). Poured deep, dark brown with a tinge of red and a good sized, dense frothy, tanned head which lasted well. Aroma was of currents and blueberries with chocolate & caramel fudge, roasted toffee malts, sticky dates, porty/vanilla notes, hints of licorice and a handful of nuts to top it off. Flavor was of blueberries and raisins with sticky toffee malts, fruit & nut chocolate, caramelized dried fruits, light vanilla/clovey notes and a hint of gingery Christmas pudding. Well hidden alcohol content. Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation, a syrupy texture, warming mouthfeel and a long finish. The standout from the Unibroue lineup (well at least the ones I have tried). Flamojune (9), Québec, Quebec, Canada does not count Aug 25, 2008 Updated: Aug 26, 2008De couleur rouge foncé, cette biere est dans une autre ligue. Dark with red fruits flavor. The best Unibroue.
