crowderm (151), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Apr 29, 2008 Pours a nice dark ruby/maroon with a pretty thin off-white head. The aroma is of sweet and sour fruits, lots of grape and berries I would say, with a bit of spice in there. The flavor continues to impress with tons of rich fruit flavors coming through, grapes and berries again. I can’t even taste the alcohol. The finish is nice and dry. The mouthfeel is pretty syrupy, but is balance out nicely by the carbonation. Very solid beer overall, I would drink this one any day of the week.
BeerEssential (77), Massachusetts, USA Jul 15, 2008 Pours an opaque black with a nice off-white head which lasts a while, but unfortunately didn’t leave much lacing. 2nd pour from the 22 oz bottle (about an hour later, re-corked) had no head at all. Quite sweet aroma. Fizzy mouthfeel and low bitterness. Somewhat sweet, carbonated and malty, but not roasted like a stout. Easy to drink, but a sipper, not a guzzler. At 9% this hits hard after a while, but doesn’t have a strong alcohol taste during enjoyment. Reminds me of the Schneider Aventinus doppelboch, in it’s Coca-Cola like sweetness, carbonation and darkness. Another winner from the always great Unibroue. dunkpigen (243), Kolding, Denmark Jul 13, 2008 Bottle at Århus Ølfestival 2008. Pours brown with red edges and a very small head. Aroma is fruity with raisins and with a hint of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavour is fruity with raisins, and again with a hint of roasted malts and bitter chocolate. logan_townsend (6), bonner springs, Kansas, USA does not count Jul 11, 2008 Trappist glass.Pours a dark brown with a beige head, poor lacing on the head. Smells of raisins primarly with other fruits coming in. Slight alcohol burn at first with a small amout of welcomed bitterness much like pecans in the aftertaste. Im glad i found this beer. chrisafari (53), Orange, California, USA Jul 8, 2008 Pours dark black with a fluffy cream colored head. Sweet aroma of belgian yeast and plums. Flavor begins with slight alcohol then flavors of plums and brown sugar develop. Leaves a nice lingering spicy/sweetness in the throat and nostrils. Like a less intense Judgment Day, but still good. Really easy to drink for 9%! ewestern (28), Ohio, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle aged for 1 year - poured a dark ruby color with a dirty white head. Sweet fruity aroma with a sweet fruity taste hiding the alcohol. Starts with a carbonated feel on the tongue that dissipates as the drink is swallowed. Leaves the mouth craving more. Definitely recommend trying this beer aged.
