Bottle. Am finally rating this as a reward to myself after a 45 minute bike ride in the rain so it is even nicer than usual. Pours very dark mostly opaque ruby with a large off white head that diminished to leave a respectable covering. Aroma is a sweet fruitiness with firey alcohol notes hiding beneath it and slight hints of spice and yeast as well. The flavour is big vinuous fruit and malt with some spice and a pleast hint of licorice or anise at times. Did not like this one the first time I had it... oh how wrong I was. Combination of a friends birthday and a brewers banquet made me take another look at this one.

Sep 4, 2008 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine. Pours an amber/black body with a large off-white head. Smells are dark and cloying with hints of chocolate malts and dark fruits. Flavors are nutty and wood chip-like, but also reminiscent of an Abbey Tripel or Quad with notes of banana, bubblegum, and clove. High carbonation and a full body seem out of balance here. This has a chewy mouthfeel and poorly masked ABV. Not bad, but definitely not my favorite from Unibroue.

Sep 1, 2008 (Canada) Pours a very dark brown wih a sm white head. The aroma is of caramel, toffee, roasted malts, and chocolate. Taste of caramel, malts, dark fruit, and a hint of vanilla. The mouthfeel is sticky sweet and robust. The 9% is hidden very well in this belgian strong ale. Do yourself a favor and buy some soon. :)

Aug 31, 2008 33cl bottle. Gift from a friend. It poured a dark red-brown colour with a huge beige head that settles down fast in the glass. The aroma is fruity and smells of dark berries and malts. It has a slightly bitter flavour that tastes of dark berries, raisins, caramel, and of alcohol. It has a short aftertaste.

Aug 29, 2008 The best Unibroue I’ve tried so far. Really drinkable but satisfyingly strong at the same time. Amazingly complex flavors mask the alcohol well. Almost flawless in my opinion.
