The BA guy who was sharing this from a growler at DLD upon hearing my RB handle said, "Hey, you’re the ’Illustrious Cornfield’!" (No sh!t.) I assured him that there was many an illustrious RateBeerian from the area... all the while happy that he didn’t press me for names. I’m really not sure what any of that was about, but he was a good fellow.
Anywho - - Methinks this is more of a blond doppelbock, even if the ABV (I believe he said around 9%) is bolstered by the addition of honey. It poured a somewhat hazy gold body with a good lacing bubbfy white head. The aroma had bready malts, some white bread toast, a soft floral hopping, and a dash of honey sweetness. Very smooth, creamy mouthfeel, a bit heated by the alcohol. The combined sweetness in the flavor from the malt and honey was countered fairly well by the floral bitternesss and alcohol. About midpoint I detected some fresh apples. Good brew.

sampled at dark lord day 2008. pours golden, i can’t see through it, but it doesn’t seem cloudy. the nose is mostly air, but as it warms i catch a hint of fruit. spicy, bready, floral flavor. medium bodied. maybe this beer is complex, or maybe i was too drunk at this point to understand this beer. florally fruity my notes say.

On draught at brewer. Golden amber pour that leaves trace lace. Honey spiced bouquet. The honey translates upfront on the palate, but does so over some stale corn notes. Small diacetyl notes in the finish compliment the oily mouthfeel. It’s drinkable, and an ok maibock, but nothing super.

Honey blonde with light head. Nice, light grainy malting in aroma and slightly stale/musty hops. Medium-bodied, light sugar, moderate to low alcohol for style, though mildly warming. Easy balance and drinkable.

Draft at Newtown Brewfest with Mad_Indian. Pours deep golden with a small fluffy white head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, spices, and hops. The flavor is sweet, caramel malt, spices, fruit, with an herbal finish.
