This crisp clean dark lager begins with hints of roasted coffee beans and rich chocolate but showcases a surprisingly light body and mouthfeel. This schwarzbier is moderately hopped with noble German hops that compliment the delicate malt backbone. Not to be underestimated, this light lager is a true champion of flavor.

Can. Pours a clear dark brown body under a one finger fizzy beige head that faded to a thin film. The nose is husky, nutty, and a little chocolaty with a bit of light roastiness and the lightest hint of hops. The flavor is dry, chocolaty, lightly roasty, and has just a hint of hops on the back end. I like that they kept the sweetness in check pretty well. Lighter bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and a lingering nutty and roasty finish. Pretty decent effort.

Solid dark brown appearance with an average size tan head and good lacing. Toasted malt aroma layered with caramel and chicory. Earthy, grainy, modestly hopped flavors and a dry, bitter aftertaste. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel leading to a lingering finish. Pairs nicely with pizza.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark soda color. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts. Taste is coffee up front, some smoke and roasted malts, and touch of hops. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer. Definitely a good one from Union.

Got a six pack de la can on a trip down to Baltimore. Was surprised (and into it) when the pour is almost completely back opaque until held up to the light. Might be good for looking at a solar eclipse. Liked the thin feeling and stout taste. Carbonation has many small, strong bubbles, like fire ants in my mouth and lips. Tastes fine, will be happy not to share. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Near black with plenty of fizz. Roasty malts and chocolate upfront, followed by some liquorice and a decent , bitter, finish. Enjoyable.

pleasant enough schwarz...lite in body and flavor, but what’s there is well balanced between dry, roasted malts, coffee and toffee and earthy hops. I’d get again.

12oz can into pint glass. Pour is dark brown with a half inch of tan foamy head. Aroma of light coffee bean and cocoa. Taste mimics the aroma along with a little sweetness. Pretty smooth finish.

Light roast malt, dark brown pour. Light sweet finish with soft carbonation. Ok barley grain aroma here. Tap at Glen’s Market.
