Union lager is the oldest, most renowned and popular beer produced by the brewery, and is available on draught as well as in bottles and cans. Its hallmark is a traditional flavour, familiar to both Slovenes as well as beer lovers from all over Europe.

0.5 l can from Ljubljana. Golden colour, lively sparkling, quickly collapseing foam. Sweet-sourish, grainy nose, sweet taste, medium body. Flavour’s grainy and sweet, finish’s hoppy and tiny dry, sourish. Nothing special, but a good drinkable and pleasant lager, especially in the summer.

0,5 l can, bought at Auchan, Budaörs.
Poured clear golden with a smalllacing white head. Aroma of bready malt, sourish, typical bottom-fermentation yeast, minimal hop. Medium bodied one with a mild malt based flavor, some sourish yeast, light hop in the finish. Average one..

Bland european lager. Chrispy, fresh, some malt flavor, nothing remakable though, can be skunky in bottles and stale on draught. Go for a draught in one of the bigger pubs in Ljubljana.

500mL bottle, Ljubljana, Slovenia Standard Euro-style lager, probably expecting more from my first Slovenian beer, but quite a clean balanced and drinkable beer with subdued hop character.

can at the nova gorica train station. nose and flavor of sour grains, medium to low sweetness, more metallic with a soggy grain/stale bread character... tastes like old malt extract syrup. syrupy texture, medium to thin body. weak carbonation.

Bottle (diky, Quack-Ducku !): Golden, clear, white lacy head; dry grassy-hoppy nose with sweet grains underneath; light, quite dry bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied bodied to thin; bitter-sweet finish with some residual sugars. Tolerable thirst-quencher...........

This was passable for a pale lager, and I think the fact it was saved by the dark bottle really helped keep the skunk at bay. A dull yellow pour, crystal clear with a 1/2" white head. An aroma of bready yeast, light earth and creamed corn. Flavor is lightly sweet malts, with a decent grassy bitterness showing up. Drinkable.
