3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
The beer is clear brown with small head. Aroma has some flowers, delicate honey, old bread, toast, sugar. Watery with delicate carbonation. Another English thirst quencher without complexity but with quite satisfying malt backbone. Still nothing amazing.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml dark bottle, filtered, from Tesco. This is quite a rich bitter, with good chocolate notes. Thereís some lingering tobacco flavoured bittering hops, but this is more about the malt, so itís my sort of beer. There is a lack of character about the beer - itís fairly clean, flat, and lacking in interest, and itís under-carbonated which simply emphasises its lack of life, but the robust chocolate malt goes a little way toward compensating. I quite liked this, but canít see myself getting excited about drinking another one.

Draught (Regal (JDW), Cambridge)
Woh - this is a time machine! Iím back in the 80s. Every beer tasted like this back then. A dull bitter, undergrowthy and a bit minerally. Not a bitter for me. Not really any brewing flaws, itís just a style that doesnít do it for me.

Cask, The Highcross, Leicester. Amber brown with a cream head. Aromas are toffee with raisins and lemon. Dusty yeast with herbal notes and green apple. Flavours are nutty weetabix with bittersweet lemon and a green apple bite. Raisins with a bready, dry finish. Merely OK.

Pint in the Salt Cot ( JDW)
Malty aroma and taste. Slight citrus in the finish. Looks good and as usual for this pub, well kept but nothing much to distinguish it from other beers of this style. In saying that, it was just what I was looking for today.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) on the 21st February 2015. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear tawny in colour with a thin white head. slight malty aroma with warm yeasty bread overtones present. Thin weak mouthfeel and poor lacing. Mixed malts give a mild maltloaf base with hints of berry fruit but too weak to identify. Dusty earthy flavour to the hop prickle giving a weak bitter aftertaste. Finish is malty but rather weak as it runs out of legs - needing more oomph as you would think this was more like a 3.6% instead. A poor session ESB, lacking in body and depth of flavour.
