aroma is well developed caramel which has taken on a pleasant bitter note, devoid of sugary nastiness. appearance is translucent deep ruby with tiny floating island and half a ring, little to no lacing. flavor is a hint metallic, big caramel bomb with fleeting fruits in close: straw/raspberry. perhaps alcohol esters at work. interesting take on a dull style with substantial ABV to boot, well done.

Aroma of dark rum, caramel and almonds Appearance is brownish red with tan head. Flavor matches the nose; almost reminds me of a Brandywine. Palate is bubbly. Outstanding.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear, deep amber colored body with a finger-width, off-white, creamy head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma has a nice pine with some resin and light florals. Very solid caramel backing with a light bread. Flavor is more the same. Lots of caramels and some bready toffees. Flowery and piney with some earth that leaves a medium bitterness with some resins. A touch of alcohol heat, but very nicely balanced with a medium length aftertaste following a medium-full body and light, creamy carbonation. Overall, a solid beer. Nicely malted with a solid hopping. Good stuff.

"Resinous hop aroma with plenty of flowers and baked goods mixed in. Amber brown body with a frothy tan head and thick lacing. Medium to full bodied, malt forward with a great hop kick. Doughy and floral with sticky hops and mild mixed berries. "

Poured an attractive ruby color with a creamy off-white head and average lacing. The aroma was spicy with some light pine and citrus. The flavor was spiced malts and a touch of hops. Almost medium in body with a fairly dry finish. Not bad.

Bought a variety pack at Payless while in West Lafayette. Hope all the rest are as good as this scottish ale, amber brown clear with a modest head but nice lacing, plenty of malt with just a little hint of soap.
