smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA Mar 20, 2007 Draft - this keg may have had a bit of age on it. Deep red body with a nice, creamy beige head. Nearly a nitro pour appearance. Big, sweet malty aroma. Flavor was borderline unbalanced. Few if any detectable hops. Decent early, then the malt overtook it completely and it was waaaay too sweet.
SuzyGreenberg (934), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 30, 2008 12 oz. bottle - thanks to pepsican for the trade; pours dark orange-red with some floaties; strong aromas of sugar and sweet malts; almost barley wine-ish; drinks dry and creamy with an almost syrupy texture; very sweet and overall like a thin barley wine Odeed (1482), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 25, 2008 murky orange with not much head.smells of burnt biscuits, oranges, and caramel malts.flavor is much of the same.the burnt flavor kinda kills it for me. jsquire (1880), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle thanks to thedm. I didn’t decant this as well as I could have, so I got a murky reddish amber color with a sticky khaki head. Sweet nose with caramel, light toast and alcohol. Thick, sweet beer with lots of caramel, toffee, malt syrup, light toast, and noticable alcohol. The finish shows a piney hop and more more alcohol. Really easy to drink for the strength. Nice beer. Ty5592 (1009), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle. Murky dark ruby color with no head. Very malty aroma with caramel notes. Thick body with toffee and nice caramel flavor. Light roasted bittersweet finish. This is good stuff. Beerlando (1271), Orlando, Florida, USA May 27, 2008 Bottled February ’08, just 3 months old. Pours a hazy reddish-amber color with some fine, suspended particulate. A frothy tan head shows decent retention, leaving thick clumps of honeycomb lace on the glass. Aromas include caramel and toffee malts, cereal grains, and toasted bread amidst a substantial citrus hop billing that is long on grapefruit and orange, with a dash of grass for good measure. Flavors are well balanced, with the sweet, buttery toffee being countered by grapefruit and a bit of emerging pine resin. There’s a peppery, yeasty finish that works quite well with this brew. Tastes like it would drop off rather quickly, so drink this as fresh as possible. Medium-full bodied and smooth. The 8.7% ABV is incredibly well hidden. This is a damn good brew, and definitely near the top of the genre, right up there with Three Floyds Brian Boru.
