2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
I am wondering if I didn’t get a bad bottle of this. It was a bit on the sour side. Perhaps this was intentional. I mean it wasn’t like the unplugged (historic style) porter from New Glarus undrinkable sour. However, it had a wang to it...kind of like a homebrew with bad sanitation practices. The roasted malts and hops hid a multitude of sins.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle via trade. Poured a slightly thinner looking dark black body with a smaller to perhaps average foamy beige head. Aroma is very dusty with lots of dusty malts, dusty chocolate, vanilla candles. Flavor of sweeter chocolate pudding powder, grass, some dry plywood, bad vanilla. Medium to thinner body with soft to average carbonation and a watery finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown with medium head and lots of lacing. Aroma of roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. Common Porter taste, not heavy but not too thin. Drinkable and slightly above average.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
A slightly better than mediocre porter. Oily mouthfeel with the typical chocolate and coffee character. Not much in the way of hops, but has an attractive dark appearance and an almost licorice sweet aroma.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Thanks to mattboyer182 for the extra. 12 oz. bottle served in a Surly Darkness tulip. Bottled February, 2012.
A: Pours a dark brown, almost black with a one finger light tan head forming on the pour. The head subsides rather slowly to a nice thick collar. Some splotchy, soapy lace is left on the glass.
S: Milk chocolate, toasted malts and a slight dry roasted coffee are all present. There is a really nice sweetness on the nose.
T: The taste definitely takes a step back. Just some dry roasted malts and very mild chocolate. The flavors leaves rather quickly to some lingering pale malts. The sweetness from the nose isn’t present at all.
M: A bit thin, almost bordering on watery. I wish the flavors would stick around.
O: The beer started off nice, but overall the flavor profile was rather weak and it was a touch too thin for my liking.

8/11/12. GTMW. Black pour, maybe more of a really dark brown, with a decent enough tan head. Light coffee and cream in the aroma with plenty of caramel and chocolates as well. Somewhat light flavor with plenty of coffee and touches of chocolate, caramel, and butterscotch. Not bad.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle pours a very dark ruby brown with a decent tan head, good retention and some lacing. Smells of roasted malts. Aroma has lots of the same, plus the expected chocolate and coffee. Taste is slightly sweet with the hops kicking in on a short dry finish. Mouthfeel is creamy without too much carbonation, and body is thinner than expected. A good porter, but not a great one.

Aroma is dark malts, chocolate, fruit and a hint of grit. The flavor is roasted and earthy malts, fruit undertones, and hops in the middle that last into the finish.

Tap at CK. Fizzing out head. Diacetyl nose with mega mega toffee and hazelnut. Taste is dry, tangy, thicker coffee. Palate is medium with thick chocolate. Decent sweeter porter with no cloying. Gets better over time. Inoffensive. Coffee forward.
