In the spring of 2006, I brewed 300 gallons of top-fermented beer using wild yeast to create a Belgian-style Lambic. We conditioned the beer in oak casks and then initiated a secondary fermentation in the casks using whole fruit from Huber's Orchard in Starlight, Indiana. You should experience a tart, almost sour taste balanced by the aromatic and richly flavorful addition of whole blueberries - perfect to share with friends, and a platter of good cheese and fresh fruit. - Caleb Staton, Head Brewer

bottle shared by tom10101, many thanks bro! pours hazy purplish with a nice off-white head, good retention and lacing. tart berry aroma, juicy and slightly sweet blueberries - hint of sweetness, some acetic but also nice citric/lactic profile, lambic base is hypnotizing as usual with vanilla bourbon notes. bright to average carbonation, light body, lightly astringent and phenolic finish. very nice fruit lambic again by upland!

Shared with the gang at SARA. A - pours a murky thick purple/blue. Low ring of light pink head. S - Aromas of blueberries, raspberries, vanilla frosting, nice funk and light vinegar. M - medium body with little carb. Rich full palate. Sweet ending with soft tartness throughout. T - A desert beer. so much berry for a 2010 vintage. Like drinking a blueberry frosted cake. Vanilla, blueberries (both fresh and canned) raspberries, light funk and pie crust. Some tartness rolls off the tongue. O - really really good beer. represented of a lambic, no. but very good none the less. 4.2

Bottle. Pours a clear deep purple with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of nice slightly tart blueberry with underlying funky note. Flavor has tart blueberry note up front with more of a blueberry pie note toward the finish that was slightly thin.

Bottle shared by drabmuh. Thanks Matt! A: The appearance of this beer is beautiful. The beer is the color of pureed blueberries underneath a thin, pink cap of foam that delicately coats the glass with lacing. S: The aroma is of homemade blueberry pie. The aroma also carries an odd wave of sweet and sour scents that perplexes the olfactories. T: A lot of fruit really comes through in the flavor. The beer is slightly sweet, and not at all what I had expected. Barrel aging is normally very detectable in both the aroma and the flavor, but I don’t get a good sense of that here. Also missing is the funky, wonderful, intriguing scent and taste of lambic. While there are some positive aspects to this beer, the various taste components are too disjunct and lack any sort of cohesion to make this a great fruit lambic. M: Adequate carbonation and light on the palate. D: I was honestly a bit disappointed. I was really looking forward to the possibility of another great blueberry lambic, but this one did not deliver. This is a decent beer, and I would be willing to try it again, but I won’t seek it out. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-27-2011

2010 Vintage. 9/27/10. Shared with friends at our intense Blueberry tasting extravaganza.

A - Wow. Very beautiful. Extremely blueberry like color. Dark purple red appearance. Minor level of foam at the top mostly around the edges.

S - Wow. Great apricot and mango scent. Excellent blueberry notes as well. Acedic smell of apples maybe? Nice tropical wild smell.

T - Yeah. Very nice blueberry taste. Excellent dry sweetness. Very minor amount of oakiness. I’m getting very faint amount of Frambois characteristics but honestly it’s just that fruity tartness. For sure, just like eating raw blueberries with a slight bit of wheat / withier notes.

M - 60/40 carbonation on the mouth swish. Ultra light body and the intense dryness this beer leaves you with is very amazing. My teeth are chalky.

O - This is much better than the Cascade Blueberry. 95/100. Excellent blueberry taste, ultra dry finish.

Bottle. [thanks forgetfu]
Light gusher. Muddy dark red with a small, pinkish fizzy film head. Continues fizzing. Aroma has fresh, sweet blueberry, very light funk, fruity tartness, light vanilla oak character. High carbonation, dry and fairly light mouthfeel. Flavour is elegant, oaky character shines through the fruit. The fruit tastes kinda pulpy and not that fresh - still a good fruitiness, though. Good tartnesss, but never like the Cantillon. Very nice beer.

Bottled 9/27/10 Batch 42-09
Tasted on 5/14/12 from a corked and caged 750mL bottle purchased from the online release. Pours cloudy dark purple/ruby with an average pink head that slowly recedes to a thin collar with a spot of lace in the middle of the glass. The nose is sour lemon acidity with natural blueberries and a hint of wheat malt. The flavor is not quite as sour, featuring the juicy blueberry a bit more and the sour notes and weak malt a bit lighter. The body is light with lively, stinging carbonation, and a long sour and juicy blueberry finish.

Originally reviewed: 6/10/11. Bottled on 9/27/10. Batch 42-09. Split this with my wife, poured my allotment into a large wine glass. Pours a dark purple-tinted crimson. Very thick-looking. Lots of sediment in the glass. A small pinkish head sits atop, but dies out quickly. The aroma is funkified. Sweat, locker room - just downright funky. Faint blueberry tones noted, but way overpowered by the funkiness of this crimson delicacy. Mild carbonation on the palate. Finishes decent enough. Dries out on the finish. Puckeringly tart blueberries in the flavor. Sour lemon-like citrus, yeast, lactic-acid wrinkling the palate a bit, more funky flavors. This definitely is tart. I was surprised my wife took to it so well, but she downed it quickly and happily. I savored mine a bit more, but it was a pleasure to have. A nice tart beer with just hints of fruity sweetness to keep me sipping.

Hazed purple pour with white head and lace. Aroma is blueberry tartness. Flavor is blueberry, that is a little more flat than the aroma. Medium bodied with good carbonation.
