COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We couldn’t stand the idea of going nine months without our Winter Warmer, so we decided to hold some in reserve. Bourbon Barrel Winter Warmer is aged in three-year-old Buffalo Trace barrels to add hints of oak and bourbon to our Winter Warmer’s already complex taste. After aging our 2008 World Beer Cup Silver Award-winning Winter Warmer in bourbon barrels for six month, Bourbon Barrel Warmer will be released in 22oz bottles in late April.

5oz taster on tap at Olives. Mostly clear kind of brownish red color. Head quickly fades to virtually nothing. Big bourbon flavor, caramel malt, light spice. Some cough syrup. Pretty sweet, with a bit too much of a boozy warmth for 9%. Bigger body, lightly crisp, light carbonation. Slick texture. Big vanilla. This stuff drinks like 11% or more, pretty damn boozy and sweet. Like some one literally dropped a shot of liquor into my beer, not very well blended at all. Hard to drink much harder to drink than the BA Founders Red’s Rye I had earlier. Struggled to finish my half portion. Certainly not balanced nor easy-drinking.

Bottle - Rosy amber with a thin filmy head. Boozy warm nose with bold malt, toffee--a little sharp. Taste is warm, sweet and malty. Lots of caramel and toffee and some buttery warmth. Medium-thin and slick with ample carbonation.

Pour from bottle. Subtitle bourbon on the nose. Lots of bitter caramel malt. Finish is a little weird. Can tell it’s not a very good barleywine but the bourbon helps a lot.

Bomber pours a murky reddish-brown with decent but disappearing off-white head and scant lacing. Aroma is full of caramel, vanilla and toffee. Taste is sweet, with some wood and dark fruits plus booze in the flavor. Body is medium to full with slight carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. I enjoyed this one much more that the regular Winter Warmer, but it’s still definitely a sipper and a strong one. More hop presence would have made this better.

Strong caramel, vanilla, and toffee flavors. Very sweet and boozy, but good.

22 oz. bottle. Split with The Dude. Pours a rich reddish color with a small off white head. Aroma of bourbon, barrel notes, sweet reddish malts and vanilla. Flavor is mildly sweet with booze notes, rich fruity malts, mild umami. Pretty nice. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes booze and bourbony, lingering.

Bomber crushed with Honkeybra. Pours murky brown with a white head that disappears quickly. Good amount of vanilla on the nose. Bit of booze, some dark fruits. Pretty sweet. A bit of oxidation maybe? Still mostly solid.

growler shared from tailspin beer fest. this poured a dark deep amber color. the initial scent was bourbon barrel and dark fruits. the flavor was omg I want more...nice sweet malt base with the oakiness of the barrel and the hops so mild. on the back end you get a very nice alcohol burn. wow this was yummy.

Bottle shared late night at RBWG. Pours clear amber with a light, bubbly head. Rich, meaty malts in the nose, toffee, slight cheese. Medium to big sweet flavor, some brown sugar, toffee, bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, warming, lots of toffee, alcohol, wood. Not bad.
