COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We couldn’t stand the idea of going nine months without our Winter Warmer, so we decided to hold some in reserve. Bourbon Barrel Winter Warmer is aged in three-year-old Buffalo Trace barrels to add hints of oak and bourbon to our Winter Warmer’s already complex taste. After aging our 2008 World Beer Cup Silver Award-winning Winter Warmer in bourbon barrels for six month, Bourbon Barrel Warmer will be released in 22oz bottles in late April.

22oz bottle from the Sahara Mart in Bloomington, IN. Pours a hazed amber colored body with a finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice, streaky lacing. Aroma is quite nice. Lots of sweet bourbon barrel with plenty of caramel, dark fruit, and bready toffee. Some woody vanilla, citrus hops, and syrupy rum. Flavor doesn’t quite live up to the aroma, but is still solid. Lots of caramel, raisin bread, sweet bourbon, vanilla, and rum cake. Some light citrus and wood in the finish with some alcohol warmth as this ends sweet with a light bitterness that dries nicely. Lengthy aftertaste with some toasty caramel and vanilla bourbon taking the forefront. Medium, smooth, soft, somewhat syrupy body and light carbonation. Overall, a really nice barrel aged barleywine. Well balanced and very enjoyable. Solid.

Dark mahogany pour. Bourbon dominated nose. Medium syrupy body. Pretty much tastes like what I’d expect from the name: lots of warm bourbon flavors, lots of caramel and toffee, vanilla, wood, a bit of booze on the finish. Straightforward, comforting stuff.

Red-hued with viscous body and small head. Feint bourbon aroma keeps you sniffing. Nuanced and pleasant with a trace of woodiness that adds satisfying complexity without distracting. Extremely caramelly flavor accompanied with a bounty of coconut.

22. Thanks mike! Pours a clear dark brown with gold edges and no head. Sharp bourbon band aid nose. Creamy sticky medium body. Band aids and bourbon on the mid palate. Tangy finish.

Big caramel and bourbon on the nose. Pours hazy amber orange. Frothy foam rings. Big caramel, vanilla flavors. Worked well w the barrel. Nice smooth creamy.

22oz bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown with a frothy beige head that left some nice lacing. Nose of peat soaked oak chips with a big boozy kick. Very hot on the palate, a bit much.

Holy shit, tastes like a glass of scotch and water, thin, boozey, hot, not the beer for me, but interesting and good if you like scotch.

Bottle from Sprinkle through Cavie. Pour is reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma is like an awkward candy store, peanut brittle, fruit, and alcohol. Taste is lots of wood, vanilla, dark fruit, and alcohol.

22 oz bottle from the brewery. Pours copper with an off-white head. Aroma has strong bourbon, various fruit notes like strawberry, raspberry, raisin, and banana, and caramel. Flavor is bourbon-led with caramel and suggestions of the fruity notes (mainly raisin), finishing more on a toasted bread note with oak. Also has a definite alcohol tingle. Fairly tasty, but the flavors could stand to meld just a little bit more.

bottle from... crap, cant remember, if you sent me this, please let me know and I will update my review. too many trades recently. anyway... pours a burnt amber color with a few centimeters head into my scotch glass... looks perfect! not too much not too little. bottle is dated April ’10. smells bourbony, but not overly so. smells like a weak bourbon, no hops, no malt no anything except diluted bourbon. it is really pleasant. There are hints of caramel in there, with a hint of sour... just a tiny hint of sour... I dont know if this will hold up in a cellar with that on the nose. I suggest drinking this soon if you have one. taste: bourbon is the first thing on the palate. honestly, not much more. it tastes well aged, very smooth, but bourbon is about the only thing there. dont get me wrong, this is nice. I like sipping on a good bourbon, and thats what this tastes like, a nice carbonated bourbon. alcohol is covered very well, not too strong... I get some brown sugar and caramel in there as well. anyway, not sure this is a barleywine, but it is pretty good. Grab one if you see it.
