3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The pour is surprisingly clear amber/copper color with a short lived off-white head.
S: The nose certainly lets you know this one is barrel aged. Bourbon and vanilla start things off. Caramel, toffee, and brown sugar follow. There’s a bit of cardboard/oxidation going on too.
T: Surprisingly light in flavor for a -bal aged barleywine. Again, sweet vanilla and bourbon along with the typical brown sugar and caramel flavors of the style. A bit of warming alcohol is present as well.
M: The body is certainly on the thin side with a fairly lively carbonation to it.
D: Not at all bad, but not a homerun either (maybe a long single). I didn’t find it bad, just sort of uninteresting.

2010 bottle of the Bourbon Barrel Warmer thanks to thirdeye11. Pours with a slightly hazed amber body with a small white head. Super awesome and strong aroma. Tangy, barrel, bourbon everywhere, sweet, vanilla, bread, rum cake, orange and lots of barrel. Taste is kind of bland compared to the aggressive aroma. Barrel, burn, caramel and alcohol. Syrupy with medium strength bubbles. Good and aggressive barrel aged beer.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective barrel-aged beer tasting on 08/11/2012. Clear amber pour with a thin white head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Citrus, malt and oak in the nose. Medium to full body with notes of citrus, bourbon, malt and a bit of floral hops flavors. The finish is malty with an oak aftertaste. Decent aged Barley Wine overall.
