3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle
At $5.99 a bomber in the local market this is a reasonably priced fallback beer. While the profile is nothing special (and there are better options from Three Floyd’s, Stone, and others) it does not feel like a gimmick. Grab a fresh bottle and find out for yourself what Upland does when not making sour beers.
Aroma / Appearance - The semi-transparent base sits by and eats up a quarter of the light. Clear legs race downwards like sheets of rain on a windshield. Carbonation is evident without being overdone. Roses, sweet hops, lemons, and grapefruit remind me of a summer garden in full bloom.
Flavor / Palate - The bright rosy hops get your attention almost immediately. The bitterness that follows is rather tame for an imperial IPA. Regardless it finishes with a memorable tang that hangs in the back of the throat. While not an exemplar it is good enough that I would recommend picking one up if you are in the area.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at the brewpub. Pours hazy orange with off-white head. The aroma is butterscotch and lots of fruity hops, some honeyish sweetness, some floral hops behind the fruit. The flavor is dense sweetness with a sort of chaotic hop profile. There is noticeable alcohol. The finish is marked with assertive bitterness that gets a pine note to it after a few sips. Ok.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hides the alcohol very well, nice aroma, tropical. Flavor starts a bit slick, buttery, balanced pine and citrus, tasty, not the freshest so I’m sure there are a few points to give here.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted 8/19/10. 22oz bomber. Filtered with a dark golden hue. Trace off-white head. Aromas of toast and pop tarts. There are a lot of fruity berry esters in this one! Medium to full bodied with a dry finish. Herbal and fruity. Rich, but simple and straight forward. A touch light and one dimensional.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle shared by drabmuh. Thanks Matt!
This beer appears a dark orange hue. There is a half inch of head that leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. The aroma is pretty weak. The smell is of a strong IPA with a substantial amount of malt. My suspicions are confirmed: this is an IPA that is relatively balanced in terms of hops to malt. I would prefer less malt and more hops, of course. I’m missing the floral, citrus, pine, etc. - the things that define an IPA to me. The taste is not astringent or unappealing, per se, but again, this beer lacks the defining characteristics associated with the style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber. Amber body, slightly hazy. Fizzy, off-white head, mostly diminishing. Lots of malts in the aroma and very little from the hops. Raw grain, caramel, breadiness with hint of citrus. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. The finish is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, sticky texture, moderate carbonation. The flavor, like the aroma, is dominated by the malts. There’s plenty of bitterness, just not enough good hop flavor and it comes across as grainy and a bit chunky. Just OK.
