COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Continuing our adventure into the realm of sour ale brewing, we designed a recipe to create an Upland version of a traditional Flanders Red. Melding flaked maize into a turbid mash and adding Belgian candi sugar during a long kettle boil, we prepared this ale for epic proportions. We then incorporated wild yeasts and other acetic and lactic acid producing microorganisms for a year-long oak fermentation in bourbon barrels, which had previously been utilized to age beer. The journey was worth the hardships.

Bottle at The Fruit Sour Tasting, London - I brought this fella. Pours dark, cloudy ruby with a moderate, creamy head. Semi-dark berry aroma, light leather. Medium sweet flavor with some strong tartness, light dryness, bit of leather, sturdy berries. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Faintly dry to finish with berries, light funk, more leather, some jammy fruits. Really good.

Bottle shared by craytonic. Thanks Matt. The beer is brown to ruby hued with an off white head that leaves sparse lacing in its wake. The aroma offers fruit, particularly cherries, oak, and a healthy dose of booze. Powerful flavor, with a strong showing from both the booze and fruit. Plenty of tartness and a bold acetic finish. Impressive. This exceeded my expectations. Would be very happy to try this one again. Recommended. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-28-2012

Bottle thanks to Leighton at THE (fruit) sour tasting. It pours deep red with a small-medium beige head. The nose is raspberry yoghurt, tangy berry, oak, vanilla and light sourness. The taste is earth, tart red fruit, berry, raisin, red grapefruit, tangy, vinous, light spice, vinegar and sherbet with a sweet-sour finish. Fairly one-dimensional. Not bad.
