COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Continuing our adventure into the realm of sour ale brewing, we designed a recipe to create an Upland version of a traditional Flanders Red. Melding flaked maize into a turbid mash and adding Belgian candi sugar during a long kettle boil, we prepared this ale for epic proportions. We then incorporated wild yeasts and other acetic and lactic acid producing microorganisms for a year-long oak fermentation in bourbon barrels, which had previously been utilized to age beer. The journey was worth the hardships.

75cl, no mention of ABV, new exclusive American brew Anno 2011, thx to Secret Santa!, complex sour brew, vinous/sour and slightly alcoholic/woody, not too heavy, very balanced, cloudy, nearly no head, very good brew, yet very expensive!

750 ml bottle to oversized snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; an opaque deep cherry with creme lacing. Smells sout, sweet, and candied. Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. One of the best Flanders Reds I’ve ever had!

Bottle at Muckfest III - Pours hazy copper with a ring of tan head. Tart malt on the nose with cherries, but not too pungent. Taste is awesome, with smooth vanilla and cherries, light oak, and smooth malt. Velvety in the mouth with a big body.

750mL pouring at RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a full haze, deep orange. Medium carbonation. Acid cut foam. Nose is cherry pith, red wine, oak, cinnamon, soft farmhouse notes but not Brett all the way. Taste is cinnamon pie, sugar, some hot butyric acid, small acetic heat. Comes off as a sweet and sour blend. Zippy and aerated palate. Pretty nice. Some brewing flaws but it comes across still as yummy.
