COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This traditional American Pale Ale is a combination of the finest Midwestern malts and American Hops, creating a refreshingly crisp, citrusy, and slightly bitter taste. Named for the Greek sun god, Helios Pale Ale is a great choice for those who like a lot of personality and individuality in their beer. Helios was given its name to reflect Upland’s commitment to environmental sustainability, specifically the installation of ten solar water tube panels on the roof of the brewery, which have dramatically reduced the amount of natural gas used to heat water in the brewhouse.

Bottle from fletche00, thanks bro. Poured a crystal clear burnt orange body with large clinging bubbles and a foamy bright white head. Aroma is mostly dry grains with some dusty cereal. Fuller body with large bubbly carbonation. Flavor is super flat with not much going on, notes of dry cereal and super old lifeless citrus rind. Blah.

Draft at Dewey’s in Kenwood. Pours a clear gold with a finger of highly resilient bone white frothy head. Aroma of muddled citrus, sweet and bready malts, leaves, and some sugars. Flavor of orange and grapefruit citrus, sweet and pale malts, and a bit of leafiness. Light-bodied, with a malty, mildly bitter mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not the most crisp, clean APA but not bad at all.

This pale ale pours a golden amber color with a decent head on it. It smells slightly of hops and has a medium bitter/hops taste to it. Pretty stong tasting for a pale ale, but still not as strong as an IPA. A nice find, something new to try.

Had on tap in a pint glass. Pours a clear light amber with a half finger white head. The aroma is practically non-existent. I don’t think I have ever had a beer with this little aroma. Maybe a faint touch of earth and caramel but that’s it. Weird. Unfortunately, the flavor was also lacking nearly as much as the aroma. A moderate bitterness comes across but a complete lack of either malt or hop flavor. Once the beer warmed to nearly room temperature, there was a little caramel and earthy hops but I really had to dig for it. Overall, if someone is looking for a beer that tastes like water this is it. I really can’t believe that lack of any aroma or flavor whatsoever. Not one I can recommend.

Bottle to pint. Looks solid; a transparent orange with white lacing. Smells and tastes alright; some hops and malt, but nothing special. Average on the palate. Decent, but forgettable.

Clear orange with a white head. Aroma is grass, herbal, toasty malts. Medium bodied with nice carbonation. Very fresh tasting. Grassy, light citrus fruits, toasted malt, and light sweetness. Nicely refreshing.

Bottle shared by plank10. Thanks Nick. The beer is light yellow with a small white head. The aroma offers some hops, grain, rain water?, sweet malt. The flavor is grainy with some wet hop character. Tastes like a harvest ale. Medium bodied with mild bitterness. Overall, this was ok. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-13-2012

I probably like these fairly light, simple American Pale Ales a little more than I should. But it’s right in my wheelhouse - light malts, crisp citrusy hops, lower ABV - It’s a really good session ale. I’d drink a lot of this if I could. Thanks to queenholly for the trade!

Aroma is citrus, malts and a hint of fruit. The flavor is malts, citrus hops and a slightly odd spiciness/heat in the finish.

Bottle. Sweet orange, grapefruit hops, and caramel malt aroma. Cloudy gold with a small head, heavy suspended sediment. Lightly sweet, cereal and caramel flavor with a light grassy bitter finish. Light watery body.
