COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Komodo Dragonfly Black IPA is a well-balanced, dark, bitter, and totally unique beer experience. We brewed this IPA with a base of fresh Pilsner Malts and darkened the color with pure Black Malts, creating a clean malt character that allows the liberal hop additions to shine through. Komodo is dry hopped and aged with a pinch of lavender to add to the overall aromatic experience.

dark brown, small light brow head. roasted malts, dry, nice aroma. flavor is roasted malts, stoutish, faint flowery balance, low on the hops for a black ipa.

Bottled. A black beer with a huge dark brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and citrusy hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and citrusy hops, leading to a bitter roasted finish.

bottled. Black coloured. Huge brown dense head. quite lively pour. Aroma of roast, vague smoke, cocoa, herbs and some spice. Flavour of cocoa, roast, herbs, spice and some flowers. Medium to full bodied. Ends on a chocolatish and roasted bitterness.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours a pitch black with a dense light brown head. Hard roast aroma with only a hint of hops. Solid body, hard and a little harsh roasty malts while the hops donít really add much but bitterness - and it sure ends bitter. Iíd call this a Stout - simply. Hasnít really got the good aroma hops to make this a Black IPA. 260412

On tap at the taproom in Indy... Pours a deep silky stout black hued consistency with reddish brown edges and topped with a medium soapy light beige head that quickly recedes leaving a wispy... Aroma of black licorice, abuse, spices, and a light aspect of spruce... Flavors emphasize semi-bitter roasted chocolate and black licorice. The hops kind of fall to the wayside. Medium bodied leaving somewhat an earthy chalky feel towards the finish. Semi-lively carbonation. Totally lacking in the hop department.

Totally black, dark-oatmeal couloured head leaving lace stripes all the way to the end. Nose is harshly floral...taste is herbal, slightly medicinal, dry bitter. Probably a good example of the style, but these donít really appeal to me too much...still, worth the experience.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Dark with a small tan head. A roasted flavor with tart hops. Some earth. Not a favored style but this is decent.

Beautiful pour. Black with a frothy head. Aroma is of roasted malt. Itís taste is a little too dry for me. Not much sweetness but the hops come through at the end.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2012 Beer pours with a frothy yellow head. Appearance is dark black - looks great. Roasty nose, but where are the hops?Tastes of roasted malts. Bitter on the back end. Plenty of bitterness, but hop flavor and aroma remains hidden. Good body, excellent mouthfeel.Overall, good beer but I miss the floral, aromatic hoppiness that I enjoy in an IPA.

Iíve been seeking out Black IPAs (CDAs, IBAs, what the hell ever) and so I found a local one. This was black as night like i wanted, and the malt bill was fairly clean, just a hint of roastiness. The hops werenít big enough, which might just be my busted nose, but I didnít get a big blast of grapefruit or pine like I wanted. This was a nice, easy going beer, sessionable at 6.5% and fairly bitter on the end, but I wanted more oomph I guess. Not bad though.
