Komodo Dragonfly Black IPA is a well-balanced, dark, bitter, and totally unique beer experience. We brewed this IPA with a base of fresh Pilsner Malts and darkened the color with pure Black Malts, creating a clean malt character that allows the liberal hop additions to shine through. Komodo is dry hopped and aged with a pinch of lavender to add to the overall aromatic experience.

Bottle. Pours black with little ruby highlights with nose tan head and lacing. Nose is big floral hops and little roast. Taste is nice and hoppy with some roast and chocolate. Lasting bitterness in the aftertaste. Definitely balanced toward the hops. Nice black IPA.

perfect example of why i dont like this style. just doesnt work together, almst tastes like a decent ipa, then almost like a decent porter, then just falls flat and makes you not even want another sip. astringent, hot, roasty, yuck.

Draft: pours dark, black with a tan head. Dusty grainy aroma, and some slight bitterness. Well balanced and delicious.

Pours black with with a full, creamy, reddish tan head. It looks great. Aroma has roasted malts, pine, coffee, mild chocolate, and subtle grapefruit. The taste is heavy in pine that is balanced well with a roasted coffee taste. There is some smokiness in here, while I also find some light citrus undertones of grapefruit. Long roasted aftertaste. Medium in body, while having a more thick texture, with a good amount of carbonation. This is a solid beer, especially if you enjoy this style.

Bottle. Black pour with a small tan head. Dark malt, hops, roasted coffee and chocolate in the aroma and taste. Almost as much of a hoppy porter/stout than an black IPA. Very good beer.

12oz bottle in a pint glass. The beer has wet, musty aroma with roasted malts coming through. The appearance is a thick black with a decent brown head that disappears, leaving nice lacing on the glass. The taste is more of a porter as others have said. Get nice notes of roasted malts and coffee. Taste a bit like the Gonzo Imperial Porter from Flying Dog, but less complex. Not a bad beer at all, but not thin or hoppy like a true black IPA. Palate is heavy bodied with average carbonation and a medium finish of coffee. Overall, a decent brew for winter.

Tap at the brewpub...jet black pour this has a floral hop aroma followed by a grassy, roasted, cocoa flavor. Complex flavor and a nice mouth feel this finished with a clean, bitter bite. Very drinkable and very good.

Very dark black pour with a very faint light tan head. Strong hop aroma at first but the dark black malts shine through as well. Well balanced flavor, a combination of bitterness from the hops but some coffee bitterness as well from the dark malts. Finishes with a touch of sweetness. Medium body, I really enjoyed this beer. A good mix of dark malts and typical IPA goodness.

Solid offering from Upland. From bottle. Pours a deep brown color, slightly hazy, with a pencil thin head and a little lacing. Aroma is good, a nice chunk of roasted nuts and burnt biscuits with a nice backbone of sharp hops and a hint of butterscotch. Flavor is slightly sweet and bitter , with some nice chocolate notes. Slightly oily on the palate. Nice.
