3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with with a full, creamy, reddish tan head. It looks great. Aroma has roasted malts, pine, coffee, mild chocolate, and subtle grapefruit. The taste is heavy in pine that is balanced well with a roasted coffee taste. There is some smokiness in here, while I also find some light citrus undertones of grapefruit. Long roasted aftertaste. Medium in body, while having a more thick texture, with a good amount of carbonation. This is a solid beer, especially if you enjoy this style.

Very dark black pour with a very faint light tan head. Strong hop aroma at first but the dark black malts shine through as well. Well balanced flavor, a combination of bitterness from the hops but some coffee bitterness as well from the dark malts. Finishes with a touch of sweetness. Medium body, I really enjoyed this beer. A good mix of dark malts and typical IPA goodness.

Solid offering from Upland. From bottle. Pours a deep brown color, slightly hazy, with a pencil thin head and a little lacing. Aroma is good, a nice chunk of roasted nuts and burnt biscuits with a nice backbone of sharp hops and a hint of butterscotch. Flavor is slightly sweet and bitter , with some nice chocolate notes. Slightly oily on the palate. Nice.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
#10 to make it official. Taster at the Upland tasting room in Indy. Pours extremely black with thin tan head. Of all the black IPAís Iíve tried so far, this one more than any could be easily mistaken for an I.S. Nose is mainly rich, strong coffee. Flavor is bitter/burnt coffee with a decent mix of bitter hops and nice malt backing. The taste leaves a bitter, dark, dryness lingering behind. Much, MUCH better than the regular Dragonfly IMHO. And I have to add that the Artwork would make Strongbad proud.

One of the best black IPAs Iíve gotten to try. Amazing hop presence with a superb balance of roasted malt, a little floral aroma which is insanely impressive considering the hugely dark color of this pour. A really great, unique and delicious beer.

bottle. Decent black IPA. Have yet to find a black IPA that I really love - the combo of malts with a really hoppy IPA always seems to flatten the flavor. Not bad though

Really enjoyed this beer. Nice hop aroma, I didnít get any lavender. The dark malts are pretty mild, and the hops really come through and have a great bitterness. Iím going to have to get more of this brew.

Pours black with a long lasting brown head. Good lacing down the glass. Big citrus hops aroma with some chocolate and caramel malt in the nose. Light in body, medium carbonation, and long finish. Citrus hops upfront with caramel and chocolate malt sweetness in the middle. Finishes with roasted and astringent. Almost an even balance between an IPA and roasty porter. The astringency on the back end was a bit strong.
