Komodo Dragonfly Black IPA is a well-balanced, dark, bitter, and totally unique beer experience. We brewed this IPA with a base of fresh Pilsner Malts and darkened the color with pure Black Malts, creating a clean malt character that allows the liberal hop additions to shine through. Komodo is dry hopped and aged with a pinch of lavender to add to the overall aromatic experience.

Growler form the tap room in Indy. This is another in a long line of so so attempts. Really way more stoutish that anything. Seems to highlight roast more than hops.

Number One Snitches!! Appearance: As I was pouring this in my pint glass, it totally reminded me of pouring a can of Oskar Blues Ten Fidy. It really looked like motor oil. Atop lies a thin tan cap of suds. Aroma: Big roasty notes, like a dry stout or porter and a little bit of citrus. Taste: A mouthful of coffee and dark burnt malts, piney bitter hops and citrus zest in the finish. The roast and burnt malts dominates the flavor for me. Please donít be grossed out, but when I burp, I get that hop profile that is dominated initially by the malt bill. Mouthfeel: Full bodied, moderately carbonated. Overall: If you take the name IPA off of the beer, and just worry about what it tastes, looks, and smells like, you have a champion. As far as Black IPAs, this was more black and less IPA than others I have tried.

12oz bottle pours black with darkish tan head that lingered for awhile the aroma of hops and an almost sweet malt. the flavor is pretty much it...the bitterness of the hops and that sweet/roasted malt character blends very well together. really a decent beer.

Aroma of cocoa with some light resiny hops. Appearance is opaque black with light mocha head. Flavor matches the nose, but with a bit more resin. The finish is somewhat dry. Palate is medium, slick and soft. Mediocre for the style.

Dark pour with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, little spice. Taste is roasted malt, little bitter chocolate, hops are hardly noticeable. Nice dry roasted malt aftertaste. Nice lacing.

12 ounce bottle, bottled in December 2010 so I know itís not exactly fresh. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with an inch frothy tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. At this point, the aroma seems more like a slightly hoppy porter now, not that itís a bad thing. The brew smells like roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some piney hops. The hops do come out a little more in the taste. It tastes like pine hops, roasted and burnt/charred malt, chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís a bit sticky with moderate carbonation. I think itís a good brew, although I would like to try a fresher bottle of this in the future. Definitely worth trying, I liked it.

Bottle shared with wolf... sent by stfun. Poured into a pint glass, big head, nice dark chocolate color. Doesnt smell hoppy...lots of roasted malts. Taste is lots of roasted malts with some hops... wouldnt really consider it a "IPA". Just a nice stout with a good amount of hops, lost of roasted malts, light coffee and chocolate. Smooth creamy texture.. Nice brew. Thanks Josh!

12 oz bottle. Pours nearly black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is super chocolatey, some piney resiny hops behind the chocolate, but there is a ton of cocoa nibs and sweet roasted malts. Flavor starts sweet like cocoa powder, slowly gaining a sharp burnt character and then the citric and piney hops come to the front in the finish. Not too bitter, a little dry and fruitiness lingers. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Interesting beer. Not sure what to think of it, lots going on but it is fresh and quaffable.

Draft. At Upland Tap Room in Bloomington, IN. Poured into a pint glass a dark cola like brown color with a tan head. Aroma is not as hoppy I would have thought but roast and licorice. Medium moutfeel. Subtle roast flavors with a fairly strong hoppy bitter bite at the end. Nice lace. Overall, would have liked to have more of a hop presence but drinks easy.
