COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Komodo Dragonfly Black IPA is a well-balanced, dark, bitter, and totally unique beer experience. We brewed this IPA with a base of fresh Pilsner Malts and darkened the color with pure Black Malts, creating a clean malt character that allows the liberal hop additions to shine through. Komodo is dry hopped and aged with a pinch of lavender to add to the overall aromatic experience.

12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of floral and lightly citrusy hops, some pale and dark malts, a little lavender, and some dough. Flavor the same with a nice blend of everything. Average texture. A good black IPA, but I’m not sure how fresh this bottle was.

Bottle to glass, average creamy, light brown head, with fair lacing. Aroma of coffee and grassy hops.Medium body but some what thin. This beer has a fairly long bitter finish that is pleasing but perhaps a bit tomuch dark malt.

Solid offering from Upland. From bottle. Pours a deep brown color, slightly hazy, with a pencil thin head and a little lacing. Aroma is good, a nice chunk of roasted nuts and burnt biscuits with a nice backbone of sharp hops and a hint of butterscotch. Flavor is slightly sweet and bitter , with some nice chocolate notes. Slightly oily on the palate. Nice.

tap at JK O’Donnelll’s in Ft Wayne - Pours near black with a lingering tan head. It smells of roast malt, coffee, and some slightly citrus accented hops. The flavor is roasty, earthy, and has a bitter chocolate character to it. Medium bodied and well, different.

Pours black with a long lasting brown head. Good lacing down the glass. Big citrus hops aroma with some chocolate and caramel malt in the nose. Light in body, medium carbonation, and long finish. Citrus hops upfront with caramel and chocolate malt sweetness in the middle. Finishes with roasted and astringent. Almost an even balance between an IPA and roasty porter. The astringency on the back end was a bit strong.

12oz bottle in a pint glass. The beer has wet, musty aroma with roasted malts coming through. The appearance is a thick black with a decent brown head that disappears, leaving nice lacing on the glass. The taste is more of a porter as others have said. Get nice notes of roasted malts and coffee. Taste a bit like the Gonzo Imperial Porter from Flying Dog, but less complex. Not a bad beer at all, but not thin or hoppy like a true black IPA. Palate is heavy bodied with average carbonation and a medium finish of coffee. Overall, a decent brew for winter.

(beer tasting @ Monty’s Krown - Rochester, NY: bottle - 12 oz) Dark brown with a light and fizzy off-white head. Hoppy and slightly smokey aroma with a lightly sweet malt balance. Very herbal and floral flavor at the beginning with that light malt coming up in the middle and leading to a lightly bitter and flowery finish.
