4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at FoBAB 09. Pours light straight up oil, one of the most attractive pour of the fest. Clings to the glass. Smells like chocolate and bourbon, coffee grounds and maybe a bit of soy. Flavor is good and dry, nice strong bourbon note with chocolate and coffee dancing around the tongue. Mouthfeel is creamy and luscious. Tried this one for the novelty of the name, and it certainly didnít disappoint.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap: The aroma consists of moderate dark chocolate, caramel, coconut, light bourbon, and roast. Itís a dark brown with no transparency and a large light brown head that has excellent retention. Thereís a lot of soapy rings left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate dark chocolate and light caramel. The finish has light-moderate oak, light roasted coffee, bourbon, and faint vanilla. Itís medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat creamy mouthfeel.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap during an AHA event. Black under a creamy brown head. Nose was loaded with vanilla and all sorts of hints of chocolate, wood, caramels and such. Taste was a nice balance of sweetness and roast. Smooth in the finish. No astringency. Very nice!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted on draft at FoBAB 2010. Pours very dark amber with an average tan head that leaves solid lace. The nose is super milk with chocolate, oak, and hot bourbon. The flavor is very chcolatey with logt of oak and once again the malted milk. THe body is full with average carbonation and a long chocolate and bourbon finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a black body with an inch thick, extremely dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is rich and sweet with lots of caramel, dark chocolates, bourbon, and roast. Some nuts, molasses, a touch of sour dark fruits, and vanilla. Flavor is very rich as well. Lots of dense and dark chocolates, bourbon, roast, and caramel. Some smooth vanilla before this finishes rich and fairly dry from a moderate, roasty and piney bitterness. A touch of bourbon and plenty of roasty chocolate in a lengthy aftertaste. Full, creamy, smooth body with a light, soft carbonation. Overall, definitely my kind of imperial stout. Very rich and flavorful with a nice roasty bitterness. The bourbon adds a nice touch without becoming too overwhelming. Solid beer.

4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft sample at FOBAB 2010. Pours an opaque dark brown with a small brown head. Awesome bourbon barrel aroma- vanilla, bourbon, oak, chocolate (and lots of it), coffee, tobacco, and roasted malts. The flavor, however, really drops out; the barrel notes quiet down and itís a sort of muddled chocolate, coffee, boozy, and soapy mess. Not horrible, but the body was too thin, which added to the problem. Low carbonation and a slick mouthfeel. Lots of warming bourbon alcohol. Coffee roast aftertaste. Disappointing after the incredible smell, but still a good beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Drat at FoBAB 8. Pours a deep black/brown. Tan head. Nose is bourbony, toasty. Charred and chocolate as well. Vanilla. On taste, there is a ton of tannic structure from the barrel and the char is a nice touch. There is a nice sweet note, touch of slickness. Itís a bit all over the place, but Iíd love to try the base beer. Still, quite interesting.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
FoBAB 2010: Pours basically opaque with almost no head nor lace, some oily tears. The aroma has notes of sweet bourbon and oak, oxidized grains, old wet canvas bag, lots of bakers chocolate, coffee, leathery and tobacco earthy tones. While not a dominated by "other flavors" like the Cherry BB Teddy Bear was, this still is quite bourbony and charred oak that reduces the base Impy Stout to more a background player. Sure you get some chocolate, coffee and roast but you have to work way too hard to enjoy them. The mouth feel is sort of hot and aggressive with a thinned out body, ashy aftertaste. A few too many months in the barrel has lessened a nice base impy, too bad, so sad. I actually liked this even less than the Cherries version and that is saying something.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled @ FoBAB 2010. Top Stout of the fest. Pours to a pitch black body with a really deep brown head and heavy lacing. The aroma is deep sweet milk chocolate chips, chocolate ganache, liquid chocolate syrup. The flavor is heavy bittersweet chocolate, cream, hops in the middle of the flavor get covered up by more chocolate on the finish. Loved it!
