2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 MIBRomeo (2346) - Wisconsin, USA - JAN 4, 2013Dark bron to black pour w/ a thick well laced tan head. Aroma is oddly hoppy for an IS. Reminded me of a bigger version of black sun for a second. Dark roast malts hints of lightly bitter coffee a touch of cocoa powder and some warm alcohols. Something though in the aroma just isn’t quite right, just a touch off. Full well coated rich palate. Flavor has a lot of bottom of the coffee pot bitterness over roasted malt, a tiny hint of bitter cocoa powder. Drain pour.. not good at all.

Received in trade from ajzy, thanks for thew opportunity!
Pours a solid dark brown/black color with a decent sized tan head that persists for a while before falling to a cap on top. Smells of roast and chocolate with a solid earthy hop edge and a faint plastic phenol. The flavor is roast and chocolate up front with enough roast and earthy hop flavor to provide more than enough balance. Light bits of dark chocolate and Hershey’s syrup mixed with a faint oxidized character round things out. Thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet rich chocolate mouthfeel. Nice brew, a couple of minor flaws, I enjoyed it for what is was.

22 ounce bottle, bottled October 2012. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch light tan head. Head retention is OK, and there’s a lot of lacing. The brew smells mostly like roasted malt and dark chocolate, along with some coffee and dark fruit. It tastes like roasted malt, dark and milk chocolate, coffee, burnt/charred malt, and some dark fruit. There’s a nice lingering sweet chocolately finish. I think it tastes better compared to the aroma, the flavors just seem stronger to me. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and coating with a good amount of carbonation. Definitely worth a try, I wouldn’t mind picking up a bomber of this again. $7.99 a bottle.

Opaque chocolate with a small tan head and threads of lace. Taste is sweet carbonated malt, turns slightly bitter in the palate, only to return to a fizzy caramel in the finish. Complex, interesting, good balance. Recommended.

Charred oak aroma, mild chocolate notes. Black, thick beige head. Medium body. An even mix of chocolate and coffee initially, but the chocolate fades, leaving only coffee, potting soil, and sourwood. Prunes underneath.

Bomber thanks to Beau. Interesting standard deviation on this beer I suspect. Pours a jet black color with a medium brown head, orange edges. The nose is cocoa and hops. The flavor is bitter dark chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, roast, milky, a great soft palate. Finishes fairly bitter. Good. I think this really improved as it warmed.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NeoHippie2 (450) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Dark brown/black into the glass with a small tan head. Aromas of coffee, cocoa, and roasted malts. Very robust and rich. The abv adds a nice warming character to it as well. Couldn’t drink a whole lot of this though it’s a bit heavy. Tasty and respectable.

Deep brown body. No head. Aroma is raw cocoa and grain. The flavor is raw cocoa nibs and grain. Not a big fan of this beer. Medium body. Unbalanced and sticky.
