Tap @ upland. Pours an opaque, muddy, golden-orange body. Average, white head. Sticky wheat mat aroma with spicy, phenolic yeast - clove and vanilla are fairly abundant. Bready with some bakery biscuit flavor. More yeast and spice in the flavor profile with at most a touch of fruity ester. Some citrus. Lively carbonation with a light-medium body and a clean finish. A fairly refreshing, somewhat tasty, but overall unspectacular Hefeweizen.

Pours a light orange-yellow with a good sized head. Aroma is banana, clove, tobacco, and spice. Flavor is a lot of the same, lots of banana and clove, hints of tobacco, cherry, apple, and perm. Finishes nice, but a little too sweet and sticky. Good brew.

Poured clearer than I expected. Small head. Wheat taste with a little finishing hops. Some slight banana.

Dark mainly because of the heavy yeast cloudiness, not from dark malt, so its not a dunkel weizen. Very cloudy copperish color, big rocky white head. Sweet and spicy nose with mainly clove and lemon zest. Flavor also clovey and lemony, with only the smallest hint at banana. Quite characterful and refreshing

Dark gold orange body with a thin white head. The aroma has some light bananas with hints of the clove. There was also an earthy herbal character with some sage. The taste was banana with some cloves. There was also a dry finish with some apple core and black pepper spice. The body is highly carbonated.

bottle - The bottle says "hefe weizen" in small print on the front of the label, so at least in the brewer’s opinion there’s no confusion about the style. I can see why there is some confusion here though. It seemed like a cross of hefe and dunkel weizens to me. The beer pours unusually dark for the style with a very thin head. It has a yeasty, malt aroma. The sweet flavor has plenty of yeast, wheat, and some caramel notes. There’s a touch of fruit though it struck me more like a Dunkel in that respect rather than the citrus typical of a Hefe. It’s an interesting take on the style. I see the ratebeer description says hefe’s can even be dark brown. I’m just not use to seeing it.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2007 Pours dark golden and hazy with a fully receding off-white head. Aroma of big banana, creamy yeast, and grainy notes with a teeny bit of clove. Taste is lightly sweet, with notes of grainy wheat, crisp bread, banana, and a strange dullness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and creamy with spritzy carbonation.

Bottle. Dull orangey gold color with almost no head. Nose is lightly breaded with some distant banana. Flavors are sour and almost flat tasting doe to very low carbonation. The whole profile of this beer is light; sweetness, fruit etc. It is even suprising that this is a dunkel as it is alot closer to a hefe. This was an uneventful tasting of a a innocuous beer. Thanks to Sprinkle for the bottle.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2009 Bottle. Murky golden-amber pour with no real head. Aroma is unbalanced and stale with strong wheaty and light citrus notes. Taste is wheat, citrus, and spice, more indeterminate than clove. Nice and spicy, medium body, at least it has a good palate. Light sweet fruitiness and some good lip smacking. Strong carbonation. Good level of acidity and medium-dry finish, but the taste just isn’t here. [2.3] Update in July 2009: draught at the pub. The wheat and citric notes remain from before, but a little heavier on the phenols with no esters whatsoever (though I have a high perception threshold for esters). Biggest plus addition is a sort of dry cookie dough that permeates the end and aftertaste. Sticky but a little thin, and I’d definitely give it another go. [3.0]

12 oz bottle: poured light orange with a small white head. This is not a color of dunkelweizen that I am used to. An American Wheat, maybe. Very light banana and yeast notes. Slightly tart. Finish is lightly sweet.
