COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A barley-wine style ale. The strong malt character and dark color is produced using a long boil and the fines British and American barley. Rich fruit flavors and aromas are balanced by a pleasant bitter taste. The finish is long and lingering, making the drinker want another...that and the 9% alcohol content.

Pours murky medium brown in color with a small, yet durable, light brown head. Sweet fruity aroma, spicy caramel bordering on molasses. Slightly sweet flavor balanced with some bitterness and spices. Medium body.

A medium brown pour whtih a light tan head. A flavor of semi sweet malt with a caramelly spiced flavor. The 9% is hidden will but peeps out as it warms. A very pleasant surprise in this beer. I wish it were available here.

Bottle. Sweet malty aroma, very fruity with light toffee, caramel, grapes, and a hint of red berry. Spicy and yeasty component. Amber with a creamy, fluffy beige head. Thick and malty, spicy and yeasty. Caramel and apple with herbal tea notes. Good level of hops, far more than usual for the style. Lightly bitter, very dry finish + aftertaste. Light warming from the alcohol. Pretty complex. Not really a barley wine, but nice!

Pours with a deep amber-red body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a touch of caramel and an underlying piney hop note. The aroma is slightly sweeter than the flavor. Medium to full bodied and slightly warming.

Clear mahogany body with thin ringing head. Aroma is caramel, malt, light sweetness. Flavor is sweet, malty candy. Smooth palate.

Aroma is upfront and intense - with loads of sweet malts and ripened fruit. The body seems undercarbed to me - coming off less velvety and more watery. A nice balance of chocolate and deep fruits make up the body. Unfortunately, an odd cherry cough syrup note comes through in the finish and really seems out of place. I am glad Upland is taking risks and making big beers, but the cough syrup finish ruins this for me.

Steve hooked us up with this cool barleywine. Pours a cloudy deep amber and a lasting thin beige head. Aroma really stood out for me with this beer. Intense crysal malts, sweet, light alcohol and a nice balance of citrus hops (pretty much the traditional barleywine smell). Flavor is nice and malty sweet but also fruity, with hints of caramel, molasses and has a nice moderate hop bitterness. Pretty well balanced overall, but the aroma is what did if for me with this beer.

12oz bottle acquired in trade (I didn’t write down from who, so if you sent this to me, let me know!). Poured a deep mahogany color with a smaller sized off white head. The first whiff gave me a stronger peaty/earthiness to it that faded away. Aromas of caramel, smoke, and dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, dark fruits, and an overall roastiness.

Thanks to hopdog. Pours a lightly hazy reddish brown with a small off white head. Aroma was malty, sweet, some dark fruits and molasses. Flavors of the smae, sensing some of the alcohol. Didn’t really fee like a Barley Wine, but was still well done.

Way darker than I expected. Grape, plum, vinousness. Some darker charcoal flavors. No hops per se, but very dry. Really really thin for a barleywine. Dirt. Not bitter in any way. Not complex. Just OK.
