3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours clear tawny with a large, creamy, off-white head, mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (straw, bread, caramel), light hops (flowers), heavy yeast (horse blanket, earth, barnyard) with notes of banana, pear, cinnamon, and apple. Full bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and an astringent finish. Long duration, heavy sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 27, 2006 Crystal clear, mahogany ale with a fizzy, khaki-colored head. Decent retention with swirls of stratus head floating atop the beer throughout.
The nose is of caramel, port and toffee. Well-balanced flavor; not at all sweet. Malty with blasts of caramel, cabernet and alcohol. Perfectly bittered. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Lengthy, very astringent and dry finish. Great seasonal brew!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle acquired in trade (I didnít write down from who, so if you sent this to me, let me know!). Poured a deep mahogany color with a smaller sized off white head. The first whiff gave me a stronger peaty/earthiness to it that faded away. Aromas of caramel, smoke, and dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, dark fruits, and an overall roastiness.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to beastiefan2k for sharing. Deep amber-brown colour. The aroma is very toasty and bready. Sweet toasted malts along with some light orange and caramel. Flavour is quite sweet but balanced nonetheless. Some soft figgy fruitness and a woody/earthy bitterness on the back. Lingering orangey character. Fruity and lightly vineous on the back. Nice rich winter beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 6, 2013 Clear dark copper/brown appearance. Spicy British malts and nuts in the aroma. Thick and roasted nuts and coffee flavors, with a little burnt coffee presence as well. Rough, gritty palate with a hoppy, dry finish. Thanks to bigbadbear for sending this one to

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to BBB63 for this. Easy 5 for appearance. The color is rich ruby red with a huge head and layers upon layers of lace. The aroma is fruity, with spice, malt, some hops, cabernet, and cherries. The taste is fruity, malty, with a dry red winey finish and some further dryness. Good complexity and balance. Very well done. Hotstuff is correct...it does not match the typical barleywine profile....consider it a berleywine/winter wassail hybrid as such.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark ruby brown with a thick, but short lived tan head. Hoppy caramel malt syrup and some dark fruits mingle together with a touch of alcohol to from the nose. Body is almost too dry with some earthy grainy flavors and underlying sweetness. Finishes dry with a strong English hoppiness. A decent barleywine, but doesn't quite have the balance it could.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 ounce bottle from Crown #19 (I think) in Carmel, IN. 2010 batch. Pours a hazy copper with a thin tan head that quickly fades. Large floating particles. Aroma of toffee, toasted malts, raisin and faint hops. The taste is toffee, citrus, raisin, bitter hop finish. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer. Its been months since Iíve had a barleywine so this hits the spot. Winter here I come! Incidentally, rating #4444.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. Poured deep garnet with a short cap of beige head. The aroma picked up toffee, dark fruit, and molasses with some floral and herbal hoppage amplified by alcohol around.. perhaps a little underattenuated. The flavor opened with tangy darker fruit and light lactic sourness.. dark fruits, raisins, and brown sugar sweetness at the core.. earth, vanilla, and herbal notes surrounded.. the sour notes circled around and hit again on the finish with an alcohol kick.. lots of residual sugars. Medium-bodied with higher carbonation on the palate.. spicy and warm.. the sourness threw me off a little.. this was just OK.
