Kevin (1765), Colorado, USA Jul 2, 2005 Thanks to BBB63 for this one. split this with lumpy in exchange for a kick ass wooden spool that i can use as a coffee table/diningtable/stage for any chicks who want to act out theier stripper fantasies. poured a hazy nut brown with a very active head. alcohol and strawberry nose that is musty with some kind of twigaroma. smells like granola roasted with a shot of whiskey with some berries. taste has a rich sweetness that is complex, outstanding to say the least. rich molasses and caramel with hints of cherry and a warming alcohol. the booze is present throughout this in a good way. nice evening bitter in the finish with a spiciness that really brings this together well. wilkie (1092), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Dec 6, 2003 Very malty nose. Dark reddish hue. Decent head that mostly dissipates but not completely. Very nice malty flavor with a bitter aftertaste. Good flavor. Smooth with alcohol in aroma but not as much in the flavor. Excellent! pnista (894), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Feb 22, 2006 On tap at brewpub. A dark mahogany with a substantial cream coloured head. The aroma is really a nice intermingling of floral alcohol with malty sweetness with a bit of resin. The mouthfeel is really exceptional with good CO2 and warming sensations, though I would not say it is that of a typical barleywine. The flavor is really quite good with malty sweet alcohol and floral hops. There’s also some copper and bubblegum. My favorite local brew! raindog (525), Evansville, Indiana, USA Apr 10, 2004 Draft: Dark oarnge. Medium, creamy, sticky, head. Lots of lace. Lots of caramel, hops, bread, toffee, and fruity malt in the aroma. Thick, creamy, body. Very sticky, and big. Big fruity, bready, caramel malt flavors. Finish is hoppy, bready, and creamy. Like the description says, one wasn't enough. More akin to a American Strong Ale,but very tasty and drinkable. Great beer! frankenkitty (1797), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Feb 13, 2007 Pours a hazy mahogany with a vermillion glow. A massive head settles slow and rocky, leaving streaky lace trails in its wake. Thick, malty aroma with sweet caramel and juicy dark fruits, perfumed with spicy oils. A dank, mustiness is subtle and makes me think "Old Ale". Prune and raisin are forward in the flavor, sweet yet dry. Additional red wine with some bitter/sour hopping showing in the finish. Hearty alcohol presence is complementary to the robust flavors. Finally... a "winter warmer" that does what it’s supposed to do!
Single 12oz. thanks to Cornfield
