The look of the bottle and the aroma were not promising anything good. But man o man taste would surprise even the most demanding dude.... Rich but soft, complex but balanced. What else do you want?

Golden and relatively gutsy compared to the other Upper Canada beers in the range this has a nice tickling malt character on the tongue. Not much head but clean enough. Quite likeable really. Sort of in Brador-like in character.

341ml bottle pours a deep golden color with a finger of white head with good retention settling to some thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is grains and hops. Taste is nice balance between the light sweetness of the cereal grains and a moderate hoppy bitter finish. Light to medium body and moderate carbonation. One of the better lagers on the market.

Originally rated November 2004. After trying Upper Canada’s light lager, I decided to try their strong lager, called "Rebellion". Poured a golden colour with highlights of orange. The head was nice, and slowly dissapeared, leaving a foamy lacing. The nose was grainy, malty and sweet. Tasted mildly the caramel with hints of fruits. Had a slight bitter aftertaste that was pleasant. I like to have this beer from time to time. Great session beer... except for the higher alcohol.

Definitely one of the better Lagers I’ve tried to date. They advertise it as a "strong beer" with a bit of a bolder taste. For the most part I’d have to agree. It’s not really THAT strong, but it tastes richer, bolder with more flavor that most other Lagers I’ve had. A little bit of a fruity sweet flavor, but also a bit sour which I didn’t like. The appearance is great! Musty yellow color, pretty thick head for a Lager and a nice amount of foamy lace on the glass. It probably looks a little lighter than it tastes. Overall a solid Lager."

Strong grainy tone under the malty sweetness, a good one but nothing I’d go out of my way for.

Deep golde, with foamy white head. OK malty taste with bitter finish and a bit of an acrid taste I cannot pin down.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2006 I live in Mn. The old heilemen brewery exports 90% of kanadas malt liquors, how about trading us for some rebellion.THIS IS SLEEMANS BEST BREW HANDS DOWN.

Bottle. March 2005. Golden yellow body with a small white head. Muted grassy hop aroma, grains. Decent amount of unrefined hop bitterness but only a fraction of the hoppiness I’d expect from the bitterness. Not to my tastes but a pretty solid lager. Hides the 6% abv well. Average palate.

341ml brown bottle. Poured deep gold with a full white head that left impressive lacing. Lots of grain in aroma, some perfumy hops. More grainy notes in flavour, light note of alcohol and good bitterness throughout.
