COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bird Calls Brown follows the Safe as Milk, using the same British ale yeast and equally well hopped, using a mix of willamette and magnum hops over a toasty grist reminiscent of midwest and east coast brown ales. It finishes quite dry and is perfect for people who enjoy darker beers with a bite. Named after one of Charles Mingus’ most exciting compositions, from the 1959 album Mingus Ah Um. 6%

A clear brown ale with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, nice caramel malt with smooth floral hops, and light orange pulp. In mouth, a nice roasted and grainy malt with nice floral hops, very nice coffee notes, well done. On tap at brewery, Oct. 5 2012.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a cream head. Malt aroma. Malt and cooca flavor with light nuttiness. Medium bodied. Cocoa and malt linger with light caramel.

On tap at Upright tasting room, pours a hazy dark copper brown with a small beige head. Aroma of toasted nuts, and light caramel malt sweetness. Flavour of toasted hazelnuts, dry caramel and some fresh hops. Well-crafted and full-flavoured for a low ABV brown ale. Very good.

Garnet-colored, with a smallish, dense head. Toasty grains, a touch of honey, and a significant hop bill. They aren’t kidding, this one finishes super-dry, with a nice hop punch toward the end, bringing a bit of citrus fruit. I get more into Upright with everything I have.
