Bottle at Tony/Jim BA Birthday Extravaganza 2013 (Western Springs, IL). Pours a darker brownish copper pour, well hazed with ruby copper glow on the edges. A frothy tannish head atop dies to a loose ring, laces small. Aromas are firmer tart pulpy raspberry, a bit seedy with oak, vanilla, and gentle darker biscuity malts. Lactic life is tart, lemony, working well with the fruit addition. Some funk, firmer oak, and gentle rye malt touch. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied showing pulpy and seedy raspberry, firmly tart, lingering fruit juice and skin. A bit tannic, dry and slick with lactic life. Tart raspberry really sets the pace throughout, some yogurt and lemony life compliment well. Backend is a bit more deadened showing a touch of rye, gentle farmhouse yeast and bread. Firmer oak, lingering lactic acidity, funk and nice barrel presence. A bit dry, toasty with some nice yogurt and gentle berry trailing. Really nice stuff.

Poured dark, deep, murky, ruby/burgundy with a nicele formed beige head. Nose had a tone of raspberries and lactic characters. This was awesome. Tons of tartness and puckering notes that gave way to dark fruits, berries, and yeast with pronounce barrel notes. Rye added space and a full bodied mouthfeel.

On tap at Belmont station. Colour...deep garnet brown with no head (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). Nose...an abundance of raspberry with funk to boot and faint wisps of rye. Palate...quite frothy up front and LOADS of fresh raspberry, raspberry cones, and plenty of yeasty bits. I notice the rye more on the back palate and it blends on so well with the raspberry. Man this is noice ( to quote the doc)!

Draft at 16 Tons Cafe, bottle at 16 Tons Taphouse. Pours a very dark brown, with a slight tan head. Raspberry is strong in the nose, also slight intimations of yeast; the rye is barely there, not really wood at all. Body is lively as befits the style. Rye comes in at finish, lending a sharpness that borders on spicy. Finishes tart, but not overly so. Really effing lovely, rye and wood really make themselves known at the back end of the finish. Bottle is much more delicate than draft, but great either way.

Tap @ Saraveza...

Huge thanks to raveskdr for a bit of this one. Served in a mini snifter. Pours a purple-copper color with a short off-white head. The nose carries really nice notes of raspberry and blackberry along with a fairly-heavy lactic acidity. Slight bit of earth and funk. Flavor is similar with a fairly-strong acidity. Great berry presence. Touch of funk and rye. Medium body. Dry. Quite delicious.
