COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five is a farmhouse pale ale that was born after enjoying a few small production European brews that use a heavy hand of hops. Ours blends several Mt. Angel grown varieties to create a deep and complex flavor with an underlying earthiness. Pale fruit aromas created during the fermentation brighten the profile and bring the beer balance.
Malts: organic pale,organic caramel
Unmalted: rolled barley
Hops: willamette, liberty, perle
Also: xanthohumol (bottles only)

Beautiful pour with huge white head. Hoppy... grassy hops, white sage, white pepper. Hearty malt presence. Nice body. Would love to drink more of this.

Thanks to an unknown BA for opening this up at the Rosso release. Served in a SAVOR snifter. Pour yields a Texas Longhorn color with a nice white head and a bit of lacing as it moved down the glass. The nose brings forward some mild citrus rind and stone fruits plus a bit of yeasty spice. A bit tame, but nice. The flavor hits much harder with a good bit of breadiness as well as fruit and spice. Body is medium with really nice carbonation. A solid beer from Upright, a brewery that hasn’t disappointed me yet. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-20-2011

Pale pour with a fluffy white head. Aroma is hops, toffee, and spice. Big herbal tone upfront with an astringent hop bite on the backside.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Portland. Hazy light orange amber pour with a thick white head. Huge herbal aroma, notes of citrus peel and mint. Very complex. Smooth clean malt taste with hints of caramel, citrus and more herbal, fruity notes. Wonderful, clean crisp saison with complex flavors that keep you looking for more. Awesome.

(750ml bottle from Bruery Provisions Store). Pours a hazy dark golden color with massive off-white head. Aroma has some spice, ripe banana, dried apricot and florals. Taste has a moderately sweet malt backbone which is followed by some hop bitterness and then ends with a sourish note. Its seems a bit off. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Finish is dry. Not as good as 7, but a decent saison.

750 ml bottle poured a hazy amber with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of dried hay, light spice and light fruittiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, eartrhiness, some herbal notes and light spice with a crisp dry finish.

Pours a cloudy burnt orange color with a huge off-white head that is retained quite well. Nicely fruity with a lot of sweet citrus as well as some pears, apples, and peaches. Mild spiciness on the nose and flavor, mostly white pepper but a little nutmeg too. Flavor is a bit sweeter than expected with lots of wheat and bread malt qualities. Some floral hops are also present on the palate as well. Medium in body with a moderate to high carbonation.

Bottle courtesy of riversideAK. Pours copper and hazy with a nice white head. Smells of citrus, perfume, some underlying funkiness, crisp, dry malt. Tastes of wildflowers, dry malt, peppery, with a dry, spicy finish. Excellent beer!

Bottle form 5000. This pours with a huge fluffy off-white head on top of an amber body. Excellent retention on top. Pear and apple show immediately in the aroma followed by a healthy whiff of banana, with funky yeast, and some clove spicy scent. It’s a nice intro to what was then expected to be a very good Saison. The flavor doesn’t disappoint. The palate is crisp, slightly tart, and refreshing. Sweet citrus, tart apple, and a little lemon zest comprise of the fruit flavors. It’s a bit funky with yeasty notes, wheat grain, pale malt, and a substantial hop bitterness. Dry finish. Very nice balance between the sweetness, slighty tart fruit, and hop bitterness. Very delicate but quite a bit is packed in 5.5%. This is a really good beer. I now need to try more from these folks.
