3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Idiosynkrasie (1987) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - JUN 15, 2013
750ml bottle. Clear golden colour with average to huge, firm, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Floral and fruity aroma, a pale grainy and/or nuttily note in the background, hints of wild yeast. Taste is floral, minimally soapy, hints of lavender, minimally tart unspecific fruity undertones. Light body, slightly anaemic. I see the bid for a genuine taste, but there’s still a way to go IMO.

Tap, Portland Craft, Vancouver, BC, Canada. Hazy orange apricot, thick long lasting head. Coriander, fresh cilantro, white pepper, lime. Skunky upfront, then mellowing. Celery and more coriander come through, with honey and more spice. Finish is long and bitter, lime and pine at the end.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 JorisPPattyn (7363) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JUN 7, 2013
Good, dense, whipped eggwhite-like pale cream-coloured foam, stable, fed by lively carbonated (cold)hazed orange beer. Very fruity USA hops, dry spices as Szechuan pepper, tad of nutmeg. Some earthy & dry-leafy aromas too - swell. Bitter-spicy -citruszeste -fiery. Amazing combination, succeeded balance. Bit woody, nearly (milk)chocolatey retronasal. Dry, dry finish, but in the back, there’s a caramelly-oranges’ sweetness. Grist-filled, quite slick, creamy MF; dry, well-carbonated. Oh dear, they’ve done it. This IS a Saison, even in my book. From the USofA... nothing’s sacred anymore...

this one poured a light orange collor with an off white head. Aroma was caramel, wet wood, lots of herbal hops, and yeast. Flavor was nice blend of hop spiceyness and herbal notes, caramle and yeast in the finish.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jgb9348 (4027) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAY 31, 2013
Cloudy copper coloured body with a bright orange glow and a thick, soapy-ish just off-white head. Aroma of yeast, grass, light hops, flowers, a bit of brett and a hint of very light fruit - nice and pungent throughout. Medium-bodied; Nice flowing yeast flavour with a good malt presence, some floral notes and a very pervasive, yet good dry grassy hop flavour with hints of light sage and chamomile. Aftertaste is light and grassy with some other herbal notes, a lot of dry character and a bit of malt coupled with the slightest bit of sweetness and a light alcohol flavour. Overall, a very nice and well-rounded saison and bordering on a biere de garde - light, but still complex and not overpowering in alcohol or flavours. Very nice to sample and recommended to anyone if you can find it - the large format bottle isn’t horrible for this beer and is nice to try picking out each of the various flavours - it isn’t easy! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Made in Oregon in Portland International Airport (Terminal D) in Portland, Oregon on 28-April-2013 for US$10.95 sampled at home in Washington on the other end of the country on 31-May-2013.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 OKplus (560) - Oklahoma, USA - MAY 29, 2013
750ml served in a Duvel Tulip.
A - Pours a glowing burnt orange with a 2 fingers of cream colored head that looks like rocky meringue. Plenty of thick lace.
S - Candied orange, sweet pale malt, pears, golden raisins, honey dew, green grass, doughy fruit bread.
T - Citrus and floral hops flood the palate. Orange, lemon, mango, golden raisins, perfumey, pears, honeydew. An herbal bitterness comes through with some spicy notes.
M - Excellent feel, moderate soft carbonation, super smooth and silky across the tongue.
Very fresh and clean fruit flavors with moderate bitterness. This is an excellent beer with lots of character. It reminds me of a hoppy Pale Ale mixed with fruity saison yeast. If this was readily available and priced right, this would be my go to summertime beer. Highly recommended.
