COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five is a farmhouse pale ale that was born after enjoying a few small production European brews that use a heavy hand of hops. Ours blends several Mt. Angel grown varieties to create a deep and complex flavor with an underlying earthiness. Pale fruit aromas created during the fermentation brighten the profile and bring the beer balance.
Malts: organic pale,organic caramel
Unmalted: rolled barley
Hops: willamette, liberty, perle
Also: xanthohumol (bottles only)

Bottle: Copper in color with a monster beige head. Lots of carbonation pushes this above the rim in no time. Nose of citrus and tropical fruits, melon, and light hints of grain. Good florals in the flavor, citrus, and grain. Yeast plays a minor role. Really drinkable, despite the constant head issue with pours.

Bomber. Hazy gold pour with a thin off white head that laces. Aromas of citrus, light pine and spice, yeast and straw. Flavor is citrus, straw, light spice and some herbal notes. Light bodied, crisp with a dry finish.

Bottle. Always enjoy this one. My favorite of the Upright "number series". Slightly underwhelming aroma but solid otherwise. Almost a bit nutty in a weird way. (Maybe thatís just me.) Hops are there but the yeast seems especially expressive. Solid hoppy saison for the money, Iíve definitely picked this one up a few times. One weird note. Thereís something in here reminiscent of apple cider vinegar. Itís subtle, but once you taste it... it is there.

Bottle to tulip Fruity esters, pepper, a little barnyard and leaves and finally light yeast. Pours an opaque amber with a huge 4 cm creamy white head that soon reduces to 1 cm with lots of lacing. Taste is a touch of lemon, spruce, pine, a little wood, hay, and grass.

75 cl bottle @ home. Pours cloudy golden with some sediment and a white head that leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma and flavour are herbs, yeast, spices, and citrus - with a slightly dry finish.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, apricot), with light notes of candy sugar, dried mango, fusel alcohol (insecticide). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. This is only my second experience with Upright, but both this and Four have kinda the same problem that No-Liís beers do...the aromas are very light and are barely able to escape the glass. While this is slightly more aromatic in the hop department than Four, it has a surprising fusel note in the background so I canít really score it higher. Bit too sweet and a touch flabby/syrupy as well. Quite disappointing for such a lauded brewer.

Poured from 750ml bottle. Golden color. Thin head. Smells and tastes of melon. Creamy. Fruity. Some honey.

Aroma is sweet, fruity, melon, not very acidic nor musty. Very frothy white head a top a golden body. Opaque. Taste is initially honeyed melon, but the backend is piney bitter. A general yeasy mustiness occupies everything after the initial flavor. This is a great beer, but is as much pale ale as saison.

On 06/18/2011. Somewhat cloudy orange body with a small creamy white head. Sweet spice and light fruit aroma. Sweet spice, dry bitter, and light funk flavor. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.
