COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five is a farmhouse pale ale that was born after enjoying a few small production European brews that use a heavy hand of hops. Ours blends several Mt. Angel grown varieties to create a deep and complex flavor with an underlying earthiness. Pale fruit aromas created during the fermentation brighten the profile and bring the beer balance.
Malts: organic pale,organic caramel
Unmalted: rolled barley
Hops: willamette, liberty, perle
Also: xanthohumol (bottles only)

Nice complex hoppy beer -- in no way an IPA or an over the top beer. Instead, it’s beautifully balanced and beguiling. Tingles on the tongue with subtle spice and bitterness.

Pours a hazy orange with a large foamy white head. Aroma of barnyard funk, hints of oxidation, grapey hops, mango and herbal hops. Flavor was very herbal, slight barnyard, rose pedals, honey with a dry finish.

750ml bottle - It’s been awhile since I had a saison this enjoyable. From the subtle tartness, to the yeast and phenolic 1-2 punch, and the overall brightness of this beer....a damn fine beer to be enjoying on hot California afternoon. Darker than usual for a saison, it pours out a cloudy copper color with a rich, thick merengue-like head. Aroma is floral, zesty-hops, yeasty...lots of phenols and fruit. The acidic bitterness of this beer on the palate is soooo refreshing. Like the essence of fruit without the cloying sweetness. Reminds me almost of a Belgian ale combined with a saison (aren’t they almost one and the same?). Worth every penny at $10/bottle.

750 ml bottle, a bit of a slow gusher. Pours hazy golden orange with a huge growing bubbly white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet wet grains with some soapy hops.

The flavor is sweet woody grains and light fruit with green hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with sharp carbonation.

Overall, a decent saison. Very easy drinking with nice hops.

"Seems like a pale ale base all farm housed up. Nicely done though not a standout. Crisp and lightly hoppy. A little barnyard going on, but subtle. Another that is good but too much in the 750 format. I like 5 & 6 better."

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours hazy amber with a big, fluffy, off-white head. Aroma of floral hops, spicy yeast, light fruits, pale and caramel malts . Flavor the same. Average texture. A solid saison but not the most interesting.

750 ml bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Clear golden yellow with 2.5 fingers of fluffy off-white head. Aromas of citrus, herbs, light funk. Tastes of citrus, tropical and stone fruit, floral notes, spices, light funk, herbs. Medium body with a dry and slightly sweet finish. Medium carbonation, juicy mouthfeel. Pretty good.

At upright with Taylor, Stephen, and Dina. Pours golden bronze almost no head. Aroma is mild sweet wheat hops, taste is raw barely, sticky grassy backbone. Finish is pretty long and great.

Mug’s Ale House, Brooklyn tap ($8): Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is slightly funky, fruity, citrus. Taste is sugary and a bit fruity. Some funk in there, but no requisite saison dryness. Maybe this is better out of the bottle because I was not too impressed by this beer.
