Four is truly a light yet flavorful beer. The recipe uses a good portion of wheat and incorporates a sour mash into the process to make it slightly tart and extra refreshing. It has delicate aromas and flavors that span a range of floral, grassy and herbal notes. The finish is extra dry and makes the beer a great beverage to pair with food, especially various cheeses and shellfish.
Malts: organic pale, organic wheat, organic munich
Unmalted: rolled wheat
Hops: hallertauer mittelfrüh

Bottle. Pours light golden yellow with a bit frothy white head. Aroma has some lemon and breadiness, some yeast and esters, citric and sharp. Flavor was a touch plactic but generally refreshing, light wheat and some citric notes, a hint of spice but generally quite drinkable. Light to medium body and a sharp carbonation.

Bottle shared by Tooch4321 - Pours straw yellow with a thin white head. Nose is soapy, with perfume, flowers, yeast, and some light herbal hopping. Light dry malt backbone. Taste is much the same--soapy and dry with a nice herbal hoppiness. Nice carbonation, smooth--solid stuff.

Draught Lemon yellow, hazy beer; fast gone white head. Spicy, yeasty, meaty esters, citruspeel, coriander. Lemon, coriander-ish, certainly held in check. Very light, thinnish with some wheatslickness. Light, not overspiced wit-saison.

750 ml bottle shared by foppa78- thanks, Mat! Pours a hazy yellow color with a big white head. Notes of lemon, bread, funk, cheese, cereal grains, grass, and herbs. Light-medium bodied, with a tart, funky, bready mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Really nice beer.

Bottle; Pour is cloudy light golden with a whispy white head in this tulip; It retains on the mediocre side, with some cloudy lacing as well. The nose is fruit esters, grain, with some florals present here. The flavor profile begins with a crisp and light bitterness; More fruit esters and some sweet grains come through. This one is lacking a bit of heft for my liking, and could use more depth of character as well. More florals, and the finish is a little thin and diminished. Overall, a decent offering.

Tasted on 4/12/12 from a capped 750mL bottle brought back from Oregon to me by UncleJedi, big thanks Jim. Pours clear pale golden with an average white head that recedes rather quickly to thin lace that sticks around. The nose is light wheat malt with some lightly tart lemon pith and just a touch of spicy yeast. The flavor is super clean and tart all the way through, with just a touch of wheat malt and traditional spicy saison yeast. The body is light with lively, but not stinging, carbonation, with a medium wheaty and lightly tart finish. This is the ultimate easy-drinking sessionable beer.

On tap at Naja’s. Hazy light yellow pour with a thin white head. Herbal, wheaty, Belgian yeast and citrus tart aroma. Light crisp malt, tart, herbal and citrus hops in the taste. So good.

Huge thanks to boralyl for sending some of this out my way. Served in a tulip. Pours a hazy yellow with a good white head and a bit of lacing on the way down. The nose has a bit of grass and grain, plus a bit of celery, which sounds strange, but works quite well. Flavor takes it up a notch with great wheat and yeast character. Good hopping throughout with a dry, butter finish. Really excellent and similar to the De La Senne and Jandrain-Jandrenouille fresh saisons we had in Belgium. Sublime. It is unreal to gave this much flavor and character in a 4.5% beer.

750mL bottle, no date from Best Damn Beer Shop, I think $9.99. Clear golden with a big 2 1/2 finger off-white head, pretty good retention. Tangy lemon nose with a good amount of wheat up front, some hay and light herbal hops and white pepper with some pear and apricot yeast behind. Light toast as it warms. Flavor continues with the moderate lemon twang and hay/wheat. A little cobwebby as well. The finish was semi-dry, sourness peaked at a 4, wheaty with lingering earth. Medium high carbonation with a light body. Good, but my least favorite between the 4-5-6 that I’ve had.

Where the Wild Beers Are, 2011. Like the description says, some wheat and lightly sour. Clear a saison, with light spice of cloves and grass. Cloudy yellow beer. Good flavor, but palate could be improved.
