COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Four is truly a light yet flavorful beer. The recipe uses a good portion of wheat and incorporates a sour mash into the process to make it slightly tart and extra refreshing. It has delicate aromas and flavors that span a range of floral, grassy and herbal notes. The finish is extra dry and makes the beer a great beverage to pair with food, especially various cheeses and shellfish.
Malts: organic pale, organic wheat, organic munich
Unmalted: rolled wheat
Hops: hallertauer mittelfrüh

Sampled on 1/22/2010. This saison pours a slightly hazy orange gold color from a 750ml botlle. A huge sized white rocky head hangs around a while and leave some nice lacing on the glass. The aroma is fruity, oranges and peaches, some spices, some honey and yeast. A medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and sweet, cereal and grain. There is a definite sour and tart aspect to the beer, which shows up more at the finish. The hops are floral and spicy. Lively carbonation. Nice balance. Lots of flavor for a 4.5% ABV beer. Light and refreshing. The tartness at the finish is really nice and kind of intensifies as you go along. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sour and tart.

A: The pour is pale straw in color with a big, fluffy, white head that slowly dies down but clings to the glass. S: There are some decently spicy esters to open up, but that quickly gives way to a more wild character. Lots of grass and lemon, particularly lemon zest. Quite a bit of lactobacillus notes to it. T: This is surprisingly tart, mostly from lemon zest and lemon juice type of lactic flavors. Grassy hops and a very slight bitterness to the beer. Just a bit of pale cracker malts as the base. This is very dry, almost always good. M: The body is light to medium, appropriate for a table beer. Quite high in terms of carbonation with a drying finish. D: I quite liked this. Surprisingly strong in terms of the lactic traits, but I enjoy that. Quite complex and interesting for a "table" beer.

draft. unfiltered. approach is lightly sweet, mildly tart, lightly acidic (lacitc/malo?). medium-high attenuation gives it moderate dryness. spice character is subdued: mild soap, mildly sweet biscuit grains, light wheat. overall enjoyable but somewhat dull and quiet. might have to revisit the bottle-conditioned version.

On Tap at Up Right Tap Room and out of my Corny Keg they later filled for me. A session beer, great for the summer, great aroma, flavor, smooth drinking. An intro beer to some of their other esoteric products.
