COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pinot Barrel Four was our second batch. We took the recipe for the Four and sent the beer into some oak barrels graciously donated by La Bete winery of McMinnville, topping them up with a small amount of Oregon cherry puree along with lactobacillus and brettanomyces claussenii to encourage more acidity and aromatic complexity in the finished beer. Half of the batch was blended and kegged and can be found at a few specialty bars while the remaining half is still maturing in the barrels and will likely be bottled at some point towards the end of 2009.

Bottle from a trade with somebody or other that I took to a tasting at Andy’s. Pours a hazed ruby touched amber with a thin to medium sized head. Gentle funk with some cherry and tart acid. Medium bodied, cherries and light acid and funk. Long funk and chewy cherries. Really nice, lots of subtlety.

Bottle pours slightly hazy orange to pink with a near bright white head of foam that has a pink-ish hue to it. The aroma has spicy yeast, some sugary notes, a touch of wine, rose pedal floral notes and a Brett sourness. The taste has a nice modest cherry and slight tartness going on to start. It then grows into more and more tartness and acidity and a touch of Brett like crushed aspirin tartness and chalkiness. This is pretty nice and the label, in my opinion, helps the beer fetch a perfect score for appearance.

750ml bottle from cavemanlawyer, thanks James! 2011 Vintage. Pours a cloudy orange colored body with thin, frothy, slightly creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma has a nice sourness up front with a bit of a citric and woody note followed by some bretty funk, tart cherries with just a slight sweetness, some acidity, and a bit of a vinous note. Flavor is similar. Clean, lactic sourness up front with some vinous and citric elements, wood, and funky brett. Cherries grow towards the end with a nice tartness and just a slight sweet note. Finishes clean, fruity, tart, somewhat funky, and dry before leaving a fairly lengthy aftertaste. Light body and a soft, somewhat lively, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really complex and enjoyable sour. Dry and clean with a nice fruity tartness, bretty funk, pleasant cherry note, and vinous wood presence. Delicious beer.

Sample from 75 cl. bottle. Hazy, light amber colour with a golden tint. Small, white head. Complex and yeasty aroma with bretts, tart fruits: Red berries, sour cherries, a good amount of barnyard notes. A bit of caramel malts. Taste is lightly sour. Medium body, soft carbonation. Finishes tart with red wine barrels and citrus fruits. Excellent sour, very nice.
