Pinot Barrel Four was our second batch. We took the recipe for the Four and sent the beer into some oak barrels graciously donated by La Bete winery of McMinnville, topping them up with a small amount of Oregon cherry puree along with lactobacillus and brettanomyces claussenii to encourage more acidity and aromatic complexity in the finished beer. Half of the batch was blended and kegged and can be found at a few specialty bars while the remaining half is still maturing in the barrels and will likely be bottled at some point towards the end of 2009.

Bottle. Pours raspberry with off white drops of head. Nose/taste of tart pink grapefruit, lightly tart cherry, vinous notes, oak and wild yeast. Finishes sweet tart. Extremely well balanced, not overpowering in its tartness. Medium body.

Bottle shared by the Bastardos at Muckfest II on 6/25/11. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Tart fruit aroma with less of a peppery yeast note and more fruit. Tart fruit flavor with a bit of sweet fruit in there as well before a nice crisp sour finish. Very good.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike. The beer is hazy and bright orange with a quarter inch of thick, white head. The aroma offers cherries, yeast, light funk. Smells awesome. Great flavor as well. Cherries shine through. This beer challenges my will. It’s hard not to gulp this. Simply fantastic. Masterful. Would love to have more of this. Highly recommended. UPDATED: SEP 17, 2013 Really great tannic quality to this beer, moderate tartness iin the incredibly dry finish. Well-balanced, good fruity flavors, slight hop bitterness, and funk more prevalent in the nose than the mouth. A great beer that I want, nay need, more of.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2012 Bottle with Doodler and Co. Thanks everyone! Mildly hazy, ruby orange appearance with a white head. Really nice, oaky, mild tart cherry, almost pie-like aroma. Very tart cherry, quite tangy, dry, vinous flavor. Awesome!

Served in a Mikasa tulip. Pours a light copper color with a bit of a reddish hue. Good white head and a bit of lacing. The nose has a beautiful cherry presence with a bit of light funk in the background. The flavor has great cherry with a subtle funk plus a bit of hay. Light earth and a bit of acidity. Light body with fairly-high carbonation. Slight pucker to the finish. Utterly delicious.

Botlle provided by Matt, sampled side by side with Blend Love. Poured into my Jackie O’s snifter. Pours a hazy orange with minimal head. Nose reminds me of another beer, but cant figure out what it is....Isabelle? That wouldn’t make sense though as the pinot is pretty evident. Some stone fruit, apricot, and funk. More acidic than the Blend Love, but I like it. Some funk and cheesiness and a lot of citrus fruit, really dig the balance. It’s nice and sour but isn’t incredibly in your face. The palate is lightly spritzy, with a long finish and light mouthfeel. My favorite Upright to date, would like to grab a bottle of it.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2014 Bottle, batch 2. Clear light pink pour with a white head. Funk and wood nose. Light cherry notes with a flutter of oak and vinous notes. Smooth, clean, and refreshing. Very nice.... Original rating 4.0 (bottle, batch 2). The re-rate is draft at the brewery.
