3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Alphadelic (1629) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 21, 2012
It’s a real cutie. The nose is hefty saison yeast with bread and butter aromas. In the mouth it is sweetly fruity with an underlying bread crust or biscuit flavor. It is a little dry in the finish. The carbonation is intensely fizzy and once it dulls down a fine yeasty slickness coats the tongue.

Shared a 1 pt 9.4 fl oz bottle of this @ 4 Hands Brewing Company w/ friends. Poured from the Scenic label w/ a town wrapped around the bottle into a 12oz 4 Hands Snifter Glass. While there is no bottle date, this one is from their 2nd Release.
Aroma- Coriander and the lightest sour aroma come up. Very subtle and doesn’t lean too highly on any certain ingredient.
Appearance- Pours a 1 finger head that has average retention. Has a dark orange colored body that glows. Leaves nothing behind on the glass.
Flavor- Has a nice acidic flavor from the beginning and then salt and coriander come up again towards mid drink to the finish. Tons of malt and fruits are present as well. No hops or bitterness.
Mouthfeel- Light Bodied, High Carbonation, Effervescent, and has a salty finish.
Overall Impression- For my first Gose beer, this one was VERY interesting and enjoyed thoroughly. Would like to grab more from Upright if I get the chance. Highly recommend!

Pours a cloudy golden yellow color with a white head. Tart lemon on the nose with lemon zest and a subtle saltiness. Some straw, bread, and lots of yeast on the nose, too. Really pleasant aroma. The flavor is just as enjoyable. A bit more tart than other examples of the style that I’ve tried. Mild coriander and salt notes with lots of lemon zest, yeast, and cracker malts. Very enjoyable and easy to drink.

Bottle served in a tulip. Light orange with a slight haze and hearty champagne bubbles through the middle. Medium to large frothy white head. Good retention. Bright aroma of wheat, coriander, signature Upright yeast, and a touch of salt and funk. Complex and effervescent. Light sweet and salty attack. Saison body with slightly less carbonation, surprisingly slick texture, and a light tart, oily, long finish. Another winner.

Bottle. Another big head; who said Heinz invented "anticipation". Cloudy dark yellow. Slightly salty almost sour nose. Just enough salt that you know it’s in the flavour. Refreshing drinkable with a salty note and some spice from the coriander. Soft body.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy light copper color with a large white head. A very odd nose, banana, spices, yeast. A rich flavor with some hints of lemony sourness, funky, peppery, banana phenols, clean Pils malts. Not getting much salt, but refreshing and tasty.

Notes dated 5-23-2011: Pours a nice hazy cantaloupe color. About a finger of snow white head quickly dissipates to some fine bubbles on the side of the glass. No lacing. The minimal head and absence of lacing is very appropriate for the style as far as I can tell. More pungent then I remember last year’s (2010) being. There’s sourness to it, but not the typical lactic sour found in a wild beer. This has the sour mash smell. A little bit of putridity goes a long way here and promises something special. Granny smith apples, lemon grass, and coriander (upon suggestion) are all identifiable. One of the more robust and interesting I’ve had of the style. Clean crisp wheat provides the backbone while a refreshing squeeze of lemon keeps this bright. Some mint and cucumber make for a refreshing drink. Moderate, spritzy, refreshing.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 callmemickey (1355) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 8, 2012
A: Light golden-straw body. Medium sized white head. Moderate retention and spotty lacing.
S: Lemons, wheat, lactic tartness, other grains. Somewhere between a dry saison and a berliner weisse. Interesting but not incredibly inviting.
T: Flavorful as acidic lemons mean a tart dry wheat presence. Slightly salty, which is bizarre even when you are expecting it. Lacks the yeasty/funky/earth of the best saisons and doesn’t have the juicy tartness of berliner weisse beers. This is somewhere in between and is rather pleasant.
M: Smooth, medium bodied. Rolling carbonation throughout. I found the finish to be slightly "off" but it was not unpleasant.
O: An interesting take on the gose. I’ve only had the leipziger, and this is certainly an american take on it, but it is comparable in overall quality. My wife found this a tad more flavorful and enjoyable than I did. Certainly worth seeking out if for no other reason than to experience a gose beer. + a cool label to boot.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Fred82 (1992) - Québec City, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 7, 2011
750ml bottle thanks to Joel.
Appearance : Hazy pale yellow with small head No lacing.
Aroma : Light tartness and light skunky notes.Nice tartness with light salt.
Taste : Tart with light salt. Rather lactic and grainy. Maybe light diacetyl. Really crisp and refreshing.
Overall : Interesting tartness and salty notes but I’m not sure about the grainy profile. All in all an interesting beer, rather drinkable and refreshing but I wouldn’t trade for this again. Very nice label though !
