Bottle a few years back. A good rep of the style, nice and lightly salty, yet a bit thicker than other gose I may have had before, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing either.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 badlizard (5160) - Berkeley, California, USA - MAY 20, 2013
Bottle. Clear light golden with a fluffy white head. Sweet fruity wheat bread aroma and taste with a nice crispness and a barely perceptible salt presence to the otherwise musty wheat bread finish. Very bright palate.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ericdevin (241) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - MAY 19, 2013
Bottle at 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours a cloudy medium golden color. Aroma is coriander, salt, and tartness. Body is very lively, no resonance, though, the beer just disappears. Finish is abrupt, salt then comes back in, very nicely hitting roof of mouth. Would love to try this on draft,
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kmweaver (3145) - Santa Rosa, California, USA - MAY 19, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 23, 2013 750mL bottle, purchased at BeerCraft. Pours a hazy, burnished, deep-golden color; off-white head with nice retention and lacing. Refreshing, fluffy coriander and slightly salty nose; a bit of toasty wheat, plenty of white pepper; refreshing and focused. Medium body; fluffy CO2; lively, saline and slightly oily mouthfeel; toasty wheat and such a nice coriander character that doesn’t overdo it; again, peppery from that French-saison yeast; a crisp, toasty, ever-so-drinkable beer that incorporates salt perfectly to smooth the edges of the wheat. Yum. Hardly a traditional Gose, but tasty. Balanced, toasty, peppery coriander-angled finish.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GT2 (5661) - Riverslime, California, USA - APR 26, 2013
750mL thanks to cavemanlawyer. 100th rating for this beer. Pours an odd color, murky full haze sickly urine color. Medium white foam. Spotty lace. Weak retention. Nose is fresh laundry, lemon detergent, moves eventually to fresh peach and starfruit. Taste is very doughy, suddy, mild chalky, but very little salt, funk, or tartness that I was looking forward to. Disappointing. Overtime an extremely delicate light saltiness comes with the palate. Takes some time to get into step and come together. Acidity none existent. Salt content comes across as simply added baking soda.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 illidurit (1643) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - JAN 27, 2013
Bottle shared at the December tasting in Santa Cruz. Fizzy white head, yellow-gold body, clear. Nose is briny/sea salt, lightly smokey. Slightly tart and fruity flavor, subtle saltiness. Delicate and nice but very mild.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 alexsdad06 (3044) - Ohio, USA - JAN 1, 2013
Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is tart, lemony citrus, dry grassy, herbal, mild coriander, pale malts. The flavor has an increasing citrus character, moderately tart, salty, grassy, herbal, coriander, earthy with a very subtle smokey note. Had along side some other examples of the style and thought this was the most drinkable.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Boutip (3979) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 23, 2012
Bottle: Poured a cloudy light beige color ale with a super huge foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of light salty notes with coriander and solid Belgian style malt base. Taste is also dominated by a huge Belgian-style malt backbone with some medium coriander notes and some subtle notes of salt. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed and super enjoyable. Looking forward to trying more beers from this brewer.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Treebs (733) - , Illinois, USA - OCT 20, 2012
750 ml bottle served in a Portsmouth snifter. Bottle shared by Carleton (SpdKilz).
A: Pours a hazy gold color with some amped up carbonation giving way to a thick airy head. It recedes to a thick ring and leaves some sticky lace.
S: Large yeasty notes with some light fruity esters and a hint of salt on the backend.
T: The briny salt is up front, but it gives way to some yeasty bubblegum, light fruity esters and some more saltiness. There is a slight alcohol twinge on the finish.
M: Medium to light bodied bodied with some nice carbonation and a salty finish.
O: My first tango with a gose went pretty well, but I can see this style being hit or miss. I really like the briny salt character of the style and hopefully I can try some similar ones in the future.
