An ever-changing small batch blend that uses a farmhouse brown ale base with any number of herbs or spices carefully chosen by our brewers to make a wine-like and complex beer unlike any other. It’s barrel-aged for roughly one year and every vintage is different. Cellar for two to four years, depending on vintage.

Bottle thanks to Bruce, consumed at his shack. It pours hazy mahogany brown with a medium beige head. The nose is light sulphur, wood, sour green apple, vanilla, earth and toasted coconut. The taste is wood, earth, pleasant tartness, spice, dark fruit, tart berry, vinous and light acidity with a dry finish. Initially tart then smooths out. Medium body and fine carbonation. Rather tasty and brilliantly balanced.

’Paul takes a brown shower’ tasting at Bruce’s pad. Cheers Bruce! Hazy amber - brown beer, good pale cream coloured head. Nice fruity nose. mildly sour. Palate is soft and a little dry with fine carbonation. Soft malt, light and thin. Winey tone with nice generic fruits. Spot of sweet cherry candy. Minerally dry finish with a little spice. Very nice sour!

Bottle Bruce’s, London - many thanks to the host! Cloudy, light brown with a creamy, light beige head. Nose has tangy, leathery fruits, berries, hints of dirt, suggestions of cocoa. Light sweet flavor, balanced sour bite, soft roasted malts and earth, leathery berries, mild leafy bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Mild tangy fruit finish, some dirt, berries, prunes. Very nice. Restrained.

Aroma is dominated by phenolics with secondary malt and acid characteristics. Nice light pepper and clove notes with some allspice as well. Light acidic fruitiness showing itself in the form of cherries. Faint toasted bread malt notes. Pours a cloudy brown with some ruby highlights. Big, thick tan head that recedes very slowly with some form of head persisting throughout. Low lacing. Flavor starts with a light malt character - toasted bread and crackers. The acidity then comes bringing cherries and berries. Low bitterness in the finish which ushers in the phenolic notes. Light clove and peppercorn throughout. Surprisingly fruity. Finish is a bit odd with the phenolics mixing with the fruit acidity. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall another good beer from Upright. More acidity than I was expecting but it works well with the beer for the most part. The finish is a bit odd. I was expecting more spice throughout but due to the acidity I am glad it was as subdued as it was.

Thanks to 5000 for sending this bottle. The beer pours a red color with a white head. The aroma is full of sour cherries with some vinegar notes thrown in. The flavor is more complex. I get some light tart dark fruit and cherry notes as well as some toffee and caramel malt. The tartness and sweetness is very well balanced. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very nice.
