A collaboration with former longtime Oregon brewer Corey Blogett, now head brewer at Maritime Pacific in Seattle. The Monk and Mingus is made for the Cheers to Belgian Beers fest in April and completely different every year. This particular batch is a strong stout fermented rather cool to keep the yeast profile in check and make room for a cold pressed infusion of coffee from Heart Coffee Roasters. The beer is very early in its process but we’ve got a great feeling about it!

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a red-tinged black with a small brown head. Aroma of dark soured fruits, roasted malt, and some slight barrel qualities. Flavour is pleasantly sour, with a slight vinegar quality, soured dark fruits, wood and caramel malts. For a style I don’t normally like, this is executed very well. Very enjoyable stuff, as always from Upright.

On tap at Upright. Very roasty, chocolate, candi sugar, roasted coffee, and sweet malts. A pleasently different offering from Upright.

Black. Deep, roasty coffee, toasted grain, and dusty oak. Smells like "old." Mildish palate for how it looks, but super tasty. Like a somewhat sessionable coffee stout. Nice.

Tap at Grain and Gristle. Dark brown pour, moderate tan head. Pretty much smelled and tasted of nothing but coffee grounds, and nearly ruined my enjoyment of my fantastic asparagus omelet. Probably the worst beer from Upright that I’ve had to date.

Tap @ PCTBB... Poured dark brown with a tan head. Good roast, ash, charred malt flavors. Some sweetness and then some drying yeast esters and spice. Cocoa, strong coffee notes and more dark, malted sugars.
