Oat Stout, made using the same British ale yeast as the Safe as Milk and Bitter, is a straightforward beer with an even balance of both roast and hop bitterness against a bit of malt heft, leaving it neither sweet nor dry. The flavor showcases chocolate malts over anything else, and it should serve as a solid beer going through the fall. 5.2%

Very chocolatey, strong aroma, coffee notes, similar character, actually stronger coffee than anything else, but thin and never really comes together.

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown with a brown head. Nice fresh and wet oat aroma, somewhat bitter, dry, some chocolate and hint of lactose, nutty bit of chocolate.

On tap. Pours black with light head. Aromas of light roasted malts with maybe a hint of nuttiness. Flavors are similar missing the creaminess that I expected oats would bring. Quite a bit of carbonation. Okay but nothing special.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Black color with small compact head. Some roasted malt aroma. Strong flavor of roasted malt, dry mouthfeel, traces of coffee; strong bitterness; more roastiness in the end.
Boring monodimensional beer; I’m not saying it’s bad.

Draft at the source: surprisingly carbonated. Not much to the aroma. Sulphur and smoke all over it in the mouth. A milky body but a little too fizzy for me. Smooth but with a real bitterness in the finish.

Draft at the source. Almost black, tan head. Nice aroma of milk chocolate, oatmeal, coffee. Taste is coffee grounds, hi quality unsweetened cacao.

On tap at Upright. Pours a nearly total black color with a medium beige head. A light nose of roast, some chocolate. A light fruity flavor with more robust roast, light bitter hops, chocolate, ash. Very tasty, hefty for the ABV.
